Any one useing amsoil sythetic Gear lube SAE 80W-90 in the tranny. I no alot of people use the the 75w-90. But not sure about the 80-90 my local dealer has it in stock.
I started using Redline Shockproof in mine. It went from an farm truck sounding tranny, to something I,m not ashamed to ride. Bought it by the case,at MYoilshop.com and sold some of it to local fellow riders. LOL Dan
Red Line heavy shockproof for me too - change it every 20K or once a year. ATF in the primary. Your clutch will love it.
Ted, I just put the Red Line Heavy Shockproof in my trans. What ATF do you use in the primary? I have SYN 3 in motor and primary still. Thanks in advance for your opinion.
This will be an interesting topic for me to watch .... should have the motor rebuilt this week and I was about to put Amsoil 20w -50 into the motor, gearbox and primary drive .... hold the phone!! ....ATF???? as in automatic transmission fluid?
Sounds interesting....this is probably the first time in 32 years of riding that I've seriously considered what lubricants I put into the bikes... I've always gone along with what the shop put in, I don't trust em anymore lol , it's all about what brand they make the most money on (naturally, everyone has a right to make a dollar!).
Some of my choices in life are changing for the better
ATF is basically highly refined oil along with modifiers that make transmissions run really well - I have tried many different lubricants in the primary trying to find an oil that had low enough viscosity to help prevent the sharp SNAP when when putting the bike into first gear when the engine's cold. Even 10W-40 is too thick at colder temps to prevent the snap. A customer stopped by the shop who does all MD police bike service and uses ATF exclusively in all primaries. Clutches hold up much better than with any other fluid he's ever used and has been using ATF for many years now, so he said. Since the primary simply lubricates the primary chain and helps keep the clutch cool along with some scrubbing on the fiber plates, ATF is a good choice. Perhaps I'll change my mind after something better comes up, but for now, I use ATF. The snap is gone.
A lot of the newer 4 wheel drive vehicles use transmission fluid in the transfer cases. All thats in a TC is a chain, gears and clutches.See no problem with using it in the primary.
