Default Baffle packing
Any disadvantage to using muffler packing? I pulled the baffles out of my Bassani muffler because I noticed they rattled near in inlet. I plan on spreading the rear flange a little to fix the rattle, but was also thinking of using some muffler packing on the baffle while it was out to lower the sound a little.

I recently did my fatcat muffler. Made a noticeable change in the sound.

I used stove rope before, it worked better than fiberglass matt.

stove rope! never would have thought of that! probably lasts a while.

i've use steel wool before and had sucess with that.

Hmmm. May have to run to home depot. I assume you coil it on like putting a new grip on a baseball bat?

Yes, wrap it tight twist or leave a little gap between and this will adjust sound too.

The standard muffler packing will breakdown over time, there's a lot of heat in there. But as long as you can wrestle the baffles out it's pretty easily replaced.

I have used Moose Racing packing. Fuelmoto uses this packing in their Jackpot mufflers and it lasts longer than standard packing. There are different sizes etc. that should match your baffles. Definitely will change your exhaust note.

Thanks, Deckman. Just ordered some cheap online.

The packing is gone in my Jackpot mufflers and I've been wondering what to use. I know Fuel Moto has a packing warranty, but the hassle of pulling the mufflers and shipping... rather just do it myself.
