Jeeze, pros and cons. I asked for it and appreciate the input. It seems to compound the confusion even more. I'm sure the mech suggested adjustable for the time factor and ease of the job. Will meet with him again this week in person rather than the phone and see first hand what is all involved. Thank everyone.
The heads do NOT need to come off to remove the pushrods. The valve covers come off and the rocker arms to remove the pushrods. It takes about 20 min if your a slacker.
Sorry for the HEADS comment meant head work, it is early. So 20 minutes witch I am sure is exaggerated for both covers still means gaskets and re assembly. Does the fuel tank need to be lifted out of the way? Either way $130 to $160 for pushrods is probably less than labor to keep the stock pushrods.

I do engine builds on these bikes all the time and yes 20 mins to get the pushrods out. That also includes removing the tank. The tank is held on with 4 bolts,1 quick fuel disconnect, electrical connecter and 2 hoses.
I wouldn't recommend adjustable pushrods to my enemy. I tried the SE Adjustables, NO GOOD. I torqued the jamb nuts to spec. I had TWO of the jamb nuts to break in half, leaving me stranded twice. The SE adjustables also clacked against the tubes. I went with another brand adjustable pushrods (Andrews). They did not clack against the tubes, however I got cought in a traffic jam in Charleston, SC and it was so hot that the Locktite thread lock gave up and the jamb nuts loosened. Never again will I go with adjustable pushrods. Buyer/user beware.
Not sure what's going on with your adjustables on the Andrews rods. HD more than likely bought nuts from a not so respectable company and the hardening process was not done (or checked)properly and they cracked. I have had Andrews adjustables in my Shovel Head since 1979 and never had one come loose or go out of adjustment. I do run solid lifters so maybe that's what is making the difference.

I will take your word for it and nix the pushrods when I do my cam change next month.
So OP tell your mech to get off his lazy and use the stock rods.
OP, do you ever plain on doing cams someday? if so, you could just go the adjustable pushrod route and put the cart in front of the horse.... or do it all at once!
