Default Touring "front" lowering kit 54628-06

Hey guys....I have a question for ya. Can I put the front lowering kit on my 07SG without doing anything to the back? When I read the info on the front lowering kit it says "must only be installed on vehicles equipped with Profile Low Touring Shocks". I know the SG is already lowered in the back so does that mean it already has the "low profile shocks"? I would like to be a little lower and the front lowering kit says it will bring me down another inch. Anyonehave that on their SG? Will it affect the ride quality much?My dealer didn't know for sure if I could do that...he was going to research it and let me know. I figured one of you would know for sure. Thanks for any help...Melanie

Hey, SGChick, yes you can use the lowering kit that hD has but i would recommend using the Progressive lowering kit #10-1561 for 2006 models. The harley kit will lower your bike 1" and that is it. The progressive kit will let you lower the front end 1 or 2" and you can cut the plastic spacer to your ride firmness. I lowered mine 2" and cut the spacer to my ride comfort. i am running a 21" front and 18 rear. The ride is good. Give me a shout if i can hel more. Booggerbe

SGChick,
Remember that the 1" lower is only on the front end, not the whole bike. The rear is already lowered 1" which equals about 3/4" on the seat height (according to HD). I believe, but I am not positive that the 1" lower front will only drop the seat height about another 1/4". I am running the 1" lower kit in mine, but it really doesn't count because of the wheel swap I did. I think if you wanted to do it, it should be fine. But you may want to look into a "reach" seat. JMHO

Ride safe,
Rob

When I got my bike it had been lowered front and rear. I have rear shocks that range from 11" to 13" and I swap them on for different rides (and just for fun) now and then. I personally do not notice any ill effects (rides about the same either way) of having the front lowered and changing the height of the rear. I would say go ahead and drop the front.

No problem doing it but don't use the Harley kit it isn't near as good as the Progressive kit and the Progressive kit is only $95.00. I put one on both my wifes SG and mine, and love it.

MELANIE YOU CAN LOWER THE REAR MORE WITH PROGRESSIVE SHOCKS BUT HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WITH SCRAPING TIRE ON FENDER BUT LOOKING AT BIKE YOU ONLY RIDE SOLO SO YOU CAN PROBABLY DO IT & AS SAID BEFORE YOU CAN LOWER FRONT WITH PROGRESSIVE SPRINGS THESE PRODUCTS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN H-DIM SURE SOMEONE ON HERE HAS DONE THIS MOD BUTCH

It looks to me like your feet are already firmly planted on the ground which is better than me on my EG Classic. As I understand it, the SG already has the profile touring shocks installed so if you choose the Harley front lowering kit you should be fine, but I wouldn't expect a noticable difference from that alone. Probably the biggest effect you could expect would be reduced cornering angle due to the lower ground clearance.

I have a SG and the rear is stock and the front was lowered using HD's spring lowering kit, same one you posted. I have no issues. My bike gives the look that it was lowered in the rear from the low profile seat but its stock. I have a 21 inch wheel in the front which probably raised it back up a bit but it sits perfect for me and looks great.

Thanks for all the quick replies! I've got some info to think over now. Glad my question helped you out too BaggerSteve!

Earlman...My feet are very close to being flat-footed as I had a solo seat done at Corbin a couple of weeks ago which helped alot! I could still use a little more bend in my legs when moving the bike around in parking lots...etc. My last bike was a sportster and there's obviouslyquite a weight difference. Also having Allen at Mean City Cycles redo the stock seat so I'll have a different seat every once in awhile.

Thanks again guys! Melanie
