Finally got a decent day to take that first ride on my 07 Ultra. I've been looking at it in the garage for 2 months. I managed about 100km on it and my initial impressions are really good. DAMN I like this thing. I don't think the speakers are very good...couldn't make out what any truckers were saying and the stereo wasn't as clear as I thought it should be. I did have a full face helmet on so will try again with my half helmet.
Quite honestly I didn't notice any whine in 5 gear or rocks in a can. The engine does like to be above 2000 rpm but ran quiet and smooth.
Question: Can't the stereo be shut off and still have the CB or intercom on?? The only thing I found to do was to mute the stereo.
well don't know for sure, but......
you mentioned kilometers in your post NOT miles.
So presume you are canadian, austrailian or some other
foreignerrrrrrr.
Maybe the truckers were speaking AMERICAN! (english).
that could explain why you couldn't understand them!!
the cb uses the radio amplifier circuit for your speakers.
now if you can't understand the "truckers" (the dand redneckers)
how do you expect to understand and hear the noise "like rocks in a can
or whine"? probably just need the new and improved universal language
translator available some time soon from your local Motorcycle dealer!!
choochoo according to my profile I live in Ontario. Most of the time that is in Canada. We speak English here but you're correct...those truckers might have been speaking american.
Now for those of you who actually know the answer to my question I would really appreciate your input.
What you need is a set of these http://www.hogtunes.com/!
I put a set in mine and they are WAY better than the stock POS speakers. ( And BTW they are made by one of your Canadian Bros. <G> PEZ is great to deal with.)
Larry
I have asked the same question about operating the CB without the radio, etc. The only way I know how is to mute the Radio/CD output by turning volume all the way down. You can then operate the CB volume separately. Anyoneelse know a different way?
Bob
Don't know what to do about the clarity. I don't have a problem in that respect with mine.
But as in anything else there is always a more expensive mousetrap (not necessarily better).
But the radio and cb are built as one unit, but have separate volume controls.
But they do incorporate and use the same audio amplifier circuit.
My understanding was the radio was supposed to automatically mute while CB was active.
Ok, in my 01 manual there is a note:
Depending on position of the speaker control switch you may here both the radio (music) and the person speaking over the intercom in the headsets. You can not increase the music volume over the VOX but you can turn the music volume down. However, the music volume will automatically return to the prior volume when the person talking on intercom stops.
Under CB:
When CB is first enabled, it automatically comes up in the setup mode. To allow easy setting of squelch level setting, channel number, and CB volume, the radio is MUTED so that only the CB audio can be heard (that is, provided the CB signal is strong enough to break squelch).
So two things I uess check the position of the speaker control switch
and recheck your squelch setting.
Normally you increase the squelch until the static JUST stops.
Then on a chart it says : more squelch = fewer signals (CB) less noise, less static, better sound quality.
I know this is an 01 manual, but setup of squelch is the basically the same in all systems
Hope this helps!
BTW I didn't check your profile. and there are towns in the USA called Ontario. but oh well
Haven't tried the headset on a ride yet but will on Sunday. Friday was the first time I got to ride this bike so now I'm exploring everything on it. I have spoken to Pez and will probably go for a set of Hogtunes.
Hey Rick. No plans right now but we do have friends in Kingston that may take us that way this year.If you want to hookup for a ride we're only a 3 hours to Kingston area so we should be able to do it.
