I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a new FLHXS. I like the way they sell the bike from the factory but I want to put on a detachable back rest for when my daughter rides with me. Where is the best place to order the brackets and the back rest? Does anyone have part #'s for easy searching? I can't imagine it's very difficult to install.
Thanks for the help, by the way how do you like the Amber Whiskey color?

You'll need the docking hardware which maybe you are calling the "brackets", then the bar which comes in 3 size heights I believe and then you will need a pad which come in different sizes and styles. Harley-Davidson.com accessories should show everything you will need. Make a note of the part numbers and you might try kutterh-d.com (Kutter H-D) for ordering the parts.
You'll love the bike. If installation is like the 09-13 then it is a snap. Waiting to order mine hoping they offer the hardware in black by then.
I'm going to give my salesman a call, and do some online searches just in case.
I'm trading in a 2011 Wide Glide because I just can't get comfortable. I've tried almost everything but nothing seems to work. I love the bike but can't ride it any farther then 50-60 miles with out needed a comfort stop. So that's the reason for the change. I'm going to Maggie Valley in June and we are doing a lot of rides there and I don't believe I can do it on the bike I have now.
Make sure you get the four point docking hardware so you can do both back rest and luggage rack. Congrats on the new bike.
+1 on this, the 4-point dock with the passenger backrest and luggage rack is awesome. Cant imagine not having it. Do yourself a favor and get the driver backrest also, you will be glad you did. They should deal with you on accessories and give you free labor.
