I have been wearing custom made silicone plugs for years now. We would have a company come to our work place and custom fit everyone. I got some extra pairs over the years and use them for riding and shooting. Really cuts down on the wind noise ( I wear a half Hemet) and also helps with the loud pipes. If you have a stereo you will be able to hear it a lot better with the plugs in.

They are not cheap but well worth the price. They will last you a life time if you look after them.

I went to a hearing aid center owned by a guy that rides. They made custom molds for my ears with a 'noise filter' built in. Basically a tube through the earplug with a DB filter in it. I can still talk to my wife on the back and hear the GPPS through the UClear 200 Bluetooth comm system.
I have bad hearing loss from 4 years racing bikes, 5 years flying light twins, 35 years flying jets and 10 years open tracking a Mustang Cobra. Wish I could go back and plug but who knew back then.

3M Yello Neons.... Top db rating at 33, super comfortable for all day use and they seat really well. Can usuallly be had for 100 pairs for $20 or so.

The blue ones at Walmart are the best disposable ones out there.

I just use the disposable foam plugs, but they make the ride so much more pleasant. I wear a full face helmet and earplugs, and I've never had a problem hearing my surroundings. If anything, they seem to act like a filter and allow me to hear some things more clearly because I'm not fighting the wind roar.

Disposable is just fine for this. No need for high priced ones. This is what I purchased two years ago. Should last me quite a while.

There was a lengthy article about the risk of damaging our hearing in one of the bike mags back in the mid-70s. Unfortunately that was BTI, before the internet, and I haven't found a reference to it. I've been wearing plugs since. Ear canal size varies greatly, one of mine being bigger than the other, so it is wise to start with a pack of mixed sizes, as previously suggested. Foam plugs are less intrusive IMHO and can be used several times.

I wore disposable for many years resisting my wife's attempts to go custom molded. Finally got a pair at Vegas Bikefest last October and wish I had gotten them long ago. so much more comfortable and I've never had an issue with them coming loose during a ride like I did with the disposables. only way to go

I wear a FF flip up and havent had any luck with the disposables even with a 1/2 helmet. It seems if they pop out at all they then catch more air and increasing the wind noise. I just had the custom ones made for shooting and they are 10x better than the ones I got at the Intl show, their made to cover the entire flat part of the ear so its flush with the ear lobe. Havent had a chance to use them yet because the motors not done, but while wearing the mold during fitment, I didnt hear squat, I had to read lips to hear what folks were saying.
Ive also used the sticky swimmers ear plugs that worked too.
