If they don't vent the top end it could build pressure. All motors are vented in the top end auto industry its called a PCV valve.

I understand crankcase ventilation quite well. What I don't understand is why filling an oil tank connected remotely to the engine causes oil to drip from those cylinder head vent tubes.

i put 3 quarts 14 ozs. in my 12 streetglide and it brings the level right to the full mark when hot. never had any blow by or problems doing this.

HD service manual will say to fill with 3qts, start and idle to check for leaks and fill oil filter. Turn engine off check oil level and fill to midway mark. I have no idea why some HD shops continue to fill to full mark. Pisses me off to no end when I find it done in this manner.

WOW............this is a surprise to me as i have been putting 4 quarts in since the Evo's.....never once had ANY blowby....

If you plan to fill the oil filter first then install it on the bike without a mess, you will need a couple of "Bruno's" to hold your bike up in the air sideways!
I always fill the oil filters on vehicles that have the oil filters mounted vertical.
Horizontal mounts, like on our Harleys, will pose a challenge to not spill, Bro!
