Is there any good way to loose some of the baffling in stock 01 ultra classics mufflers? I want my bike louder but can swing a new set of mufflers just yet, just recently got the bike.
I wouldn't advise that you do that.
I'm not sure of how the OEM mufflers come apart but if you remove the baffles that bike isn't going to run very well.
If you can just remove some of the packing it should be run ok but leave the baffles alone.
Supertrapps engineers are of the opinion that removing packing may cause reduced performance.
in short the suddenly larger exhaust tract means that the gasses loss velocity, gasses entering the area where the packing was can slow, eddy and even reverse.
the whole idea of a performance exhaust is to have good gas velocity from exhaust valve to muffler tip
alot of guys hack, drill bang etc to stock mufflers- usually on the way to getting something better.
if you are going to modify, remove from the bike, some guys damage the headers twisting and banging on the mufflers, the Y pipe at the rear head seems to crack when tortured

Thanks guys ive decided to just live with the quiet until I can get the mufflers. I wouldn't want to make blackie (the bike) mad at me for drilling and hacking on her
Another option is some late model take offs. I ran a set from a 2008 96" for a while and they sounded better than the stock 2004 ones. My baby Brother is sending via the Dad delivery motorhome a set of 2013 103" from his new bike and I will try them for giggles.Currently have Supertrapps. I would keep an eye on your local craigslist or even run an ad looking for some, you sometimes see slipons real cheap.
