Default Cleaning up fuse connections-

I was doing some wiring work on the 09 today and decided to have a look at my fuses for any signs of overload* or arcing on the legs.

I was surprised at the corrosion that has built up over the past 5 years, esp. since I am in PHX. 80% dry climate for this bike.

each fuse was pulled, legs polished with scotchbrite and a little dielectric grease was applied.
pic shows before/after, scotchbrite and grease.

I also checked that I have spare fuses, just in case.
for the 09 FLHTC I need 2A, 15A, 30A and 40A for the Master

I noticed some of the same corrosion on my 2012 sg. Not so much on the fuses yet as in some of the slots that dont have fuses in them. You would think they would have a better sealed fuse box.

I have another on the shelf- that tube , I think, is over 20 years old.

I don't have anything with points anymore, even the Panhead is electronic ignition ( as are all the Cadillacs).
I little smear on the plug wire boots and here and there on the lightbulbs etc.

A little dab'l do ya

Mike

Good thing to do and use on all electrical connections especially on plugs along with anti-seize. Keeps the moisture out.

You can clean the terminals with QTips and toilet bowl cleaner or a CLR type product. Once done with that... a little dab will do ya with the DE grease.

Thumbs up fuses

Great heads up...thanks for the info. I will check mine this weekend.

("So sick of reading "what type of oil" and "what do you ride" threads).

You can buy electrical contact cleaner at Radio Shack. Or you can use 90%-99% isopropol alcohol as well. It will not leave any residue. Clean using q-tips and some of those tiny dental in-between brushes to clean out small female connectors. Wait till dry to reconnect. Don't scrape them because you'll remove their conductive coating and leave a rough surface that will soon fail.

07-09 nightster was a bad design to drain water into the fuse box, I finally figured it out and replaced all fuses and relays and greased them, no more battery drain in 2 days.
