Default radio

Ok I have an 08 ultra and just over the weekend the radio stop working thru speakers so I flipped switch from all the way down to middle position and had music again. Then after a period of say 15-20 min it cut out again so flipped it back to down position and music again. Seems as though maybe it might be a switch problem but wondering if anyone has had this happen to them.

It is not your speaker switch. Your radio has suffered vibration damage. It is a VERY common problem with the HK radio. You can either replace it with a aftermarket radio or send it off to Iron Cross Audio to have it repaired. Same thing happened to my 08 awhile back. Do a search of the forums and you will see many other with the same problem. When you have the outer fairing off check your fairing brackets. More than likely one if not both are busted(another common issue).
Here is the link for Iron Cross...

I recently, 4 months ago, bought my 08 Ultra and my radio randomly changes to AUX. I read up on it and sure enough 3 out of the 4 brackets were broken. More searching revealed that once the brackets break, the bottom of the radio chassis vibrates on the tops of the handlebar hold down screws.(4 screws) There is a service bulletin M1289 for Touring models 2006-2011 dated October 11, 2010 out by HD to change the old style high topped screws to the new low style, flat top (not high) Torx head screws. The part number for the new screws are: 1260003. The vibration from hitting the old higher screw tops has, in many cases, caused a hairline crack in the radio circuit board which maybe causing the random change in radio turning off. The fix for the radio should also include rubber mounting "shock absorbers" for the board when the board is repaired. Hope this helps.
