I have been searching endlessly for an answer to why my 2006 Road King EFI has started to leak oil from the rear cylinder rocker cover bolt. I had check both breather assemblies and they are clear. No obstructions. It is not a significant leak but after an hour ride I can see a little oil running down the rocker cover. Anyone have a suggestion or know how to "mod" the SEAC to keep this from happening?
My theory is the breather tube are not close enough to the throttle body to get a good vacuum in the breather line. Thanks and Ride Hard!
2006 Road King EFI (FLHRI): V&H Slip-ons, Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner w/ K&N Filter, V&H FuelPak.
The system works to relieve positive pressure in the crankcase- so the blow by is "pushed" not pulled by vacuum.
Possible you nicked or lost an O ring from the bolt.
pull it out, have a look, you could smear some hi temp axle grease to lube the seals and help them stay in place as the bolt goes in

Thanks for the input MK, I did remove the backing plate and found that the forward cylinder O-ring was nicked almost 1/4 way around.
I replaced the old with new o-rings and oiled them up before installing.
Just to be sure I am doing this correctly, the O-rings go between the backing plate and motor correct? I do not have any type of seal between the breather bolts and backing plate.
I would have assumed that the forward cylinder would have leaked if there was not enough vacuum being pulled? or is the rear cylinder the path of least resistance for the oil to leak out the rocker cover bolt? I would think since the bike moves forward that the rear most part of the rear cylinder would be prime location for oil leaks.

There needs to be O rings on the bolt head side also. There are 2 per side, one on the backside of the backplate where it meets the Jugs and one on the bolt side in the groove. sometimes the bolt head ones drop out and get pinched or split during tightening which is why it's best to put a little spot of grease to hold it in place while tightening.
Well that would have helped when I had the instructions. I did buy this used with new O-rings but only came with 2 O-rings. I will go take care of that right now. Thanks MK & Smitty ya'll been a big help!
Again thanks for the help. I did find, however, the PDF you generously gave me is for 2008+ EFI. I have a 2006 Touring EFI in which I am not sure if that makes a difference. Here is the kit that I have:
If you look there is no O-ring in between the breather bolt and backing plate. I will take her out after work for an hour and see if the pinched O-ring between the plate and jugs was the issue. Again Thank You Very much!!
Now that I think of it my 06 kit on my heritage only had the 2. I would wonder if the top of your breather bolts had the [ shape flange to accept it like the newer ones. If it's not flat then I would put an O ring in there. If it's flat then it would only pinch and mangle it when you tightened it.
It's most likely the O ring you pinched that caused the problem so you should be good
That's good to hear. I did put just a skim of blue RTV on the flat face of the breather bolts just in case. They are flat so it shouldn't be much of any issue. I do wish the hoses were a bit longer. Might have to get creative soon!
