Not even close! Those are an expanding rubber insert called a well nut. It takes a hole at least 1/4" wide and shallow for those to work

I was thinking the same thing. I avhe read that you can get the next size bigger machine screw and use that but have not tired it.

I've been reading this thread and the one on inserts for the fairing mounting screws. But on the ones for the windshield there might be a good reason for not having a more secure mounting. Like in the event of a mishap, I wouldn't like to try breaking the windshield with my face or chest. The rubber well nuts wear out and are easily replaced. It's also pretty easy to push them inside the fairing and a real pain to get out when you do. So keep a few extra around, maybe toss a couple in a saddlebag too.
