Hey fellas,
Anyone swap out there stock seat with something better, more comfortable or just plain cooler. thinking about swapping it out on my SG and not sure what direction to go.

I went with a Danny Gray Airhawk big seat solo (have the pillion pad too). I really like the seat and find it comfortable. My only complaint is the rider backrest is flimsy and not that stable.

 

take a ride to Hollister, Ca corbin factory, and get fitted. check out www.corbin.com, great seats, but you'll find if you search seats on the forum everyone has an opinion just like oil threads and such.

 

check out your closest dealer to see if they have the demo seats. they should have harley as well as a couple of other aftermarket seats you can take a ride with and see how they feel.

i went with a mustang wide touring seat with a back rest. it moved me back about 2", and the back rest fits me great.

you probably won't get ONE definite answer on this.... everyone has a different riding style and what makes them comfortable.

 

I went with the Sundowner. It moved me up a bit (no rear or forward movement) and I am much more comfortable. I can ride all day with it. There simply isn't much padding (or room) on a stock SG seat... I actually liked the feel of the Hammock seat better, but it moved me back and made the handlebars a reach. This caused me some back and shoulder pain. In a perfect world, I'd have the Hammock seat with the 2 inch pull-back bars.

I bought the Sundowner too and although much more comfortable it felt like it moved me forward and up about an inch. After 3 years I had enough so 2 days ago I went to Home Depot and bought an angle grinder, rasp, and staple gun. Took it home and pulled half the staples out from the Sundowner then carefully peeled back the vinyl cover to expose the driver's seat foam. I cut the seat back about an inch and trimmed some of the forward sides away where it rubs my thighs. This was all done with the angle grinder then shaped and smoothed with the rasp. Covered her right back up and stapled her down and now I'm in comfort heaven. I found the Sundowner easy to modify as long as you are able to visualize how you want it to fit you. That, and taking only tiny passes with the grinder to start as it can take too large and deep of a swath if you're not careful. So my vote is for a Sundowner with a couple of mods if needed.

 

You are pretty close to the Corbin factory in Hollister and IMO, a ride-in appointment for a custom Corbin seat is well worth the time. The price is the same as if you ordered on-line but you can have them make your seat the way you want it and be part of the process. Seats are rather subjective so you get many different recommendations as to what's the best or most comfortable. I have had most of the popular brands of seats over the years including the stock seat makeovers and have always found Corbin to offer the best support and comfort for short or all day rides.
