Was looking for some help in deciding between the Street Glide and Street Glide special. I recently took a trip from Nashua, NH to Columbia, MO on my 2013 Fatboy lo and I decided that it was time to look into a touring bike. A local dealership is advertising that they will give me full book value on my trade which appears to be more than i thought.
So my questions are simple:
Is there anyone who bought the SG that wish they bought the SGS?
What did you pay for your SG or SGS? Im curious as there is about $4,000 markup on the SGS to see if the dealership is negotiating yet.
Also if there are any negotiating advice. I got a set of slip ons and like $500 off on my last bike.
Why would you not buy the special? 5" touch screen with GPS navigation, bluetooth and Siruis. ABS linked brakes and security system standard, better shocks and upgraded radio, painted inner fairing and pin stripes. Well worth the $3,200 price difference if you ask me.
I bought a 14 Road King with the linked ABS brakes and it's worth a million bucks to me.
I haven't had a dealer ever attempt to give me a fair trade in at first. Either on a car or bike. The best advice I can give is make it uncomfortable for either party. Remember you don't need to have the new bike and tell them that. Say it is more of a want and the numbers have to be right.
If they refuse to talk price and do what can you afford deal approach .... low ball (Dont tell them down payment be vague and be possible with the amount per month). Tell them you want your payments near what you currently are paying or less. I did 50% more than my previous bike. I always swing for the fence when it comes to a price and see where they come back at.
Then remember there are other things of value and (taking your parts off, new tires, recent service history). On my trade they said it needed tires and cam chest opened up. I handed them the receipts from the Indy that showed the mileage and dates when done. That brought the price up from 5k they offered to a little over 7k. Then they took off all my parts I wanted to keep.
I don't know if I got a good deal on my Road Glide but I am happy with it. Now my last bit of advice is to avoid I call the Harley way. They get the paperwork going and then the big book comes out. They say something "We have some great accessories for that bike and might be able to get them installed while you are waiting". I think that is why so many Harley owners are upside down on their loan. 20K for a bike then 5K in accessories all tied up in your loan and the bike is now worth 19K for being used.
awesome i appreciate the advice. So far i just emailed every dealership with my bike information and hopefully tomorrow i will get some calls / prices.
I just wanted to keep people posted, I have talked to several dealers today and it looks like they are willing to show me $15k for my trade and $23k out the door. A few dealerships have yet to get back to me at all which I find very interesting.
That's a good trade in # on the Fatboy. Just look at the numbers carefully. Dealers can make this look however makes you happy on paper and in the end, well, you know the drill. Those are almost retail #'s on the Fatboy
I just got the SGS 2 weeks ago, was debating between SG and SGS, my dealer was only 2k more for the SGS so I said what the hell go for it.
I really didn't want ABS, been riding for 30 yrs without it why would I need it now, and I hate it in cages. All the bells and whistles are cool but to me nothing the SGS has to offer is needed, I don't use GPS's radio/ mp3 player is basically the same, noise comes out of both, I like the gloss inner fairing and I'm still glad I bought the SGS since I could afford it.
I just traded my 06 Fatboy for a FLHX yesterday. I didn't really care about the touchscreen, but the main factor for me was the color I wanted was not offered in the special.

How much did they give you for the 06? If you don't mind me asking. I'm going to look at street glides this weekend. Curious what they might offer me for my 06!
