This just in:

It was a wire to the IMAP sensor that was broken inside the silicon insulator. The wires were a little tight in the loom going to the sensor. When the back brake was applied the engine leaned forward, breaking the circuit...... I'm back on the road burning refined dead dinosaurs.

Glad you got it straightened out.

Too Cool. What is the difference between a MAP and a IMAP or are they totally different sensors?

I think Shooter means "TMAP" Temperature Manifold Absolute Pressure which measures the density of the air in the intake which will vary with altitude, temperature and local weather variations.

Shooter, I have questions:

Were there stored codes which indicated a problem with the sensor?

Was the wiring harness stock and unmodified?

Mike

You're probably correct. I was scratching my head on that one. Older bikes like mine have a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) and a separate ET (temperature sensor).

Good for you. Just curious how did they diagnose the problem? Enjoy your trip now?

Yeah, sorry, can't read my own writing it is TMAP.

There were tons of codes. But none pointed to the TMAP. Loss of serial data to ECM. Loss of data from ABS. Multiple cruise control drop out, etc, etc. But nothing pointing to the TMAP.

Wiring was stock. The factory just had a wire tie a little far back and caused the wires to go tight when the engine was rocked forward on the mounts.

Strange that it took 40K for it to show up.

They found it by testing wires one at a time, and just got lucky, and found it within the first hour. Once they found it, they could kill the engine by pulling on the wire to break the connection.

The tech cut the tie, and made a nice slack loop, and replaced the connector.

This was a cool post. 1 in a 1000... A complicated problem. A fix. And a blow by blow of the fix. Probably 1 in 10,000 on here. Thanks Shooter.

Is there excessive engine movement at the mounts?
Look normal?
