Angry Strange problem

My 2011 FLTRX has developed a strange problem. When coming to a stop with the clutch pulled in, if I hit the rear brake only, the bike will stumble and die. It starts right back up. It also happens if I shift into neutral, then hit the rear brake. If I use the front brake only, nothing happens. The bike does have ABS.

My cruise control has also become sensitive to bumps and will shut off easier than before when going over bumps. I tucked my foot under the pedal, and pressed on the hand lever to keep them from moving, and the cruise still cut out on bumps.

Since these two issues started happening at the same time, I'm thinking they are related to a single issue.

I called 2 dealers, and they had never heard of this before. I'm scheduled to go on a 3000 mile trip in 24 days. This is not going to happen unless I get this figured out.

Any ideas?

Sitting still in neutral at idle after you just started it up, what does it do when you push your rear brake pedal? Brake light OK? Have you charged and had your battery checked?

Doesn't do it when sitting still. Brake lights function perfectly and there is enough movement in the controls before they light up.

This sounds like a short in the pressure switch for the rear brakes.
Easy check, pull the plug from the 2 prong connector and see if the problem goes away, or ohm the switch for a short.

Gonna try that when I get home. If that doesn't do it, I'm going to pull the ABS fuse, and see if the ABS is causing it.

wow, nice one- and a great description.

I might guess a rubbed through battery cable contacting the frame when the weight shifts.
( i had this on my fxr years ago, a slight rub through which couldn;t be seen and the fxr has that seam on the oil bag...)

I'd start banging on the bike with a rubber mallet to see if I can cause the problem in the driveway.

The thing that confuses me is, I can hammer the front brake, and it doesn't have an effect. But the back brake kills the thing.

About the only good news is that it's totally repeatable. At least it's not an intermittent.

Going to try disconnecting the switch after work, and maybe disable the ABS.....if it stops freaking raining that is. Not really wanting to be hammering my rear brake over and over on wet pavement.

Since it may appear to be angle induced. Maybe the bank angle sensor (signal light switch TSM or alarm switch TSSM if optional alarm) I have seen them go bad and prevent starts. Not 100% sure but I know when it's right and it's tripped (dropping bike), to start requires a key off/on before start switch will work again. Will it crank as soon as it dies just hitting start switch. Not sure how the ABS system could do this. Maybe they will loan you the TSM switch since you're teaching them something.
