Thanks guys...

As always, there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I'm starting to think of new mods formy RK Classic below and I thought about mixing and matching parts from other touring bikes might be an option...

A couple degree diff in rake can be done by different tripletrees, changing the angle of the neck of the frame is the advised, but not always heeded.

The basicspecs on all the touring models are the same. Same frame, same lean angle(except on lowered models) same ground clearence(except on lowered models) same tires, same gear ratios, same wheel base, same rake and trail., etc, etc. Overall length is different on some models because of the tour pac.

If you have doubts and want to confirm, just go to HD's web sight and find the area in the motorcycle section where you can do bike spec. comparisons. I just compared the RK Standard, RK Custom(which is lowered), and the EG Classic. All the same.

Regards,

Bill

To the best of my knowledge there are no aftermarket triple trees for the baggers (EG,RK,RG)
from about 1998 and newer.
I have looked and looked and can't find any.
On the 01 Eg the top tree has a half moon welded to the back side. This is used for the steering
lock. Newer ones may be the same, haven't tore any new ones down yet.
When I raked my neck from 28 to 34 degrees (approximate figures on both) The half moon had to come off as it rubbed the backbone.
I made a temporary top tree for frontend setup and for the trial ride. The stock top tree is just plain ugly when exposed.
Look at your steering pivot and the forks in relation to it. They are behind the pivot.
where most others are straight across or even in front of the pivot.
If some one knows of an aftermarket, I would like to know. I want a new custom set.

I'd imagine the 5-7 year timeframe would be better with aftermarket, 10 year was fine when 40K were built annually, but later modelwrecks in boneyards is more common nowadays. I would venture to guess that the handlebar air reservoirs had something to do with it, but would think someone by now had changed 'em out.
