I had the 95 Cubic inch big bore kit installed in my 2005 Ultra 5 years ago along with SS-510 Lift Cams. The motor was noisy right off the bat. But lately seems to be more noisy. I can't tell if it's rocker noise or lifter noise. Does anybody think they might know what it is and if this may be a problem.
Kinda hard diagnosing over the net, but how many miles on it now? Lifter failing maybe? Are the cams gear driven or do you still have the old spring tensioners?
Were the lifters replaced when the work was done? I replaced my lifters when my gear drive cams were put in and noticed it was quieter. How many total miles on the bike?
I have an 05 Deluxe with a 95 bore ... I also went with Gear Driven Cams, and they were noisy right out the gate.
I love the power, but I hate the noise. Of course, as the engine warms up tolerances loosen up, increasing the noise.
I've gone to wearing in-ear headphones, sometimes without music just to keep the noise out of my ride.
It's mostly annoying at idle or when clutched at a red light, etc. When I am at highway speeds the D&D Fat Cat helps balance out the overall sound.
The funny thing, over the years, every time I have the bike serviced, I'll ask the mechanic what they think of the noise, and all of them said it sounds normal to them.
I don't want to spend anymore money on it, because the bike has never run better, it really is set up just right, other than this "minor" annoyance.
Thanks for all the comments. My Bike runs strong and has plenty of power. I have 20,000 miles on it since the work was done. I guess soon as I get a chance I will get in to the shop that did the work. They do all High performance work for Harley's. Other than that I guess I will just turn the radio up some more and wear ear plugs.
