Default Fairing Brackets

I remember reading about bracket failure some time back. Yesterday I had my outer fairing off, and noticed that one of my horizontal brackets had broken. I fabricated both upper verticle brackets about 6 months ago as they had failed also. They are still good however. I installed Hog Tunes Speakers last year, and possibly the additional weight (larger magnets) of these speakers has placed additional stress to the fairing brackets. Is there an aftermarket alternative to the stock horizontals? or am I stuck with HD replacements? or is back to fabrication? Thanks...

Fabrication is always your best bet. I doubt there was enough extra weight from your speakers, most likely a manufacturing defect. What's to say the next one won't break? If you want it done right, make it yourself!

For the 20 thousand plus $ spent, you'd think MOCO would beef these up a bit. Then again, how do you (MOCO) sell parts if the original ones never wore/broke?

Both of my horizontal brackets broke after 7500 miles and I have HD speakers on a Streetglide. Verticle black one on the clutch side broke at 4500 miles. Replaced under warranty with no problems since but I check every 2500 miles. Seems like a heavier gauge steel would work.

I have replaced both horizontal brackets and the left vertical fairing brackets. Perhaps HD uses the thin metal brackets to fail; perhaps if they were stronger the vibration would "travel" to some other component--sort of like the idea that commercial aircraft wings are intended to flex; if they were more rigid they would fracture and break.

Last winter I beefed up my vertical brackets while I had my inner fairing off for painting; but just the other day as I was putting my front end back together after this winters mods, I noticed one of my horizontal brackets had broken off by the speaker. I too am interested in the aftermarket replacements if someone is making them....otherwise, I guess I will buy a new set of stockers and beef them up before installing them.
