I may have missed it...but how hot is it when it has this problem? My guess is that you don't have a cylinder head temp gauge, but what is the oil temp at when it has this problem?

Have you checked the little rubber cap behind the air cleaner on the intake? Sometimes a dry rotted cap has cracks and causes the bike to act up. Also check the plug wires at each end to make sure they have not come apart inside, the vibration could be causing misfire but the plug wire still looks fine (know what I mean?) I would suggest an ohm test while shaking the wires at each end, that should tell you if there is a break inside the wire. And just for chits and giggles, I would check/clean the grounds, just in case it might be an electrical gremlin somewhere. Good luck Joen, hope this helps you out some.

the battery terminals are seure and clean

when I cleaned the air filter I don't recall seeing a little rubber cap

I don't know the temperature of the engine or different cylinders, but hot enough for an uncomfortable ride

I did notice the rear spark plug wire, looked pretty good, but seemed to come offf pretty easy when checking the plugs

thanx to all with input. I miss my baby, and this is driving me nuts.

Can the guys who told me to clean and grease the tcm and the ecm chime in with other thoughts

I really appreciate everyones help
Joe

My 2012 Roadglide Ultra had same problem. After Dealer worked on it several times under warranty. Harley had them change the "Fuel Control Module". (the intake-throttle body unit). Works great now.

Not knowing how hot it is...I have seen guys riding their bikes with oil temps over 300* and they were running like crap. All kinds of bad stuff happens that hot.

Since you seem to be having a heat problem, might be a good idea to see how hot it is when the problem is occurring.

it gets hot, but not that hot. I know people are riding in the desert. I am not. I am riding in the north east. It basically happens in low gear at slow speeds. Check engine light went on only once. I parked and it restarted with no light on still sputtering. All i can describe it was like driving after getting bad gas
