Default Trade in value on 2013 Road Glide????

Been thinking about getting a 2015 road glide and looked at Kelly Blue book trade in value on my 13 and its saying 15600 dealer trade in value, you gotta be kidding me right? I bought this bike last July right before the new 14 rushmores came out not knowing that there would be a 15 rushmore road glide, paid right around 21000 for it. I know the dealers are going to say its gonna be hard to sell a used 13 when everyone is going to want the new 15. The bike has 8000 miles on it. Is this all I can expect for trade in??

Unfortunately. When the Rushmore models came out everything took a hit. I decided to keep mine and spend the money on wheels and a big motor.

My buddy has a 2013 Road Glide that he's trying to trade in on the new 2015 as soon as they are ready. He's talked to two dealers and both are in the 15K range for his trade in. His bike is completely stock but for V&H slip-ons and 12 inch black baby apes. Both dealers are within a couple hundred on the price of the expected '15s as well as the trade in. And they both say the same thing.....its a two year old bike, that's all its worth on trade.

it is a 2 year old bike. the new ones have the up-graded suspension, stronger motor, infotainment center, linked brakes, etc.. most people looking for a road glide are going to pay the extra for all the improvements and the warranty that comes with a new bike.

Bad time to trade when they first hit the floor. Wait till Jan-Feb and check back.

yes/no/maybe

take a look at your paperwork- what is the total price you will be paying on the new bike?
do they determine your insurance payment, do they require you buy a warranty etc etc.

these are the ways dealers make money.

kbb.com is a good tool to figure out real values.

BTW I paid much, less than your trade in for my 2009 FLHTC in 2010.

Harleys don't hold their value like they did 20 years ago... supply and demand.

Nobody has mentioned the key part...the dealer will not, and cannot, give you what your bike is worth.

After he takes it in on trade, he then has to sell it for what it's worth, so he has to pay you less than what it's worth so he won't lose money. When you bought the bike you paid retail, and when you trade it in you sell it for wholesale. If you don't want to do that, there's always Craigslist or eBay.

And, as mkguitar pointed out, the number for what you're getting for the trade, and the number for what you're paying for the new bike, are, by themselves, meaningless. All that matters is the difference between the two figures. That's the check you have to write, plus the nuisance fees, of course.

dealer down here has two 2014 SG's leftover, and half dozen Ultra Limiteds, and more Ultra's.

i would say give them a month or two, with old 2014's on the floor, and new 2015's,
and they will want to move some inventory.

around here, you have to call to a dealer in a different city, and say "I am in this town, but want to buy from you, will you make it worth my drive" and that usually gets you a better deal

FWIW, I would ask them to do a Buyers Order, (then go home and sleep on it) and that plainly shows the difference in value. they may have to move some value's around to reflect selling at MSRP, i don't think they can undersell MSRP without the MOCO raising a ruckus.

the difference is the key.
