Bought a hammock set from a forum member, and the seating position is back about 2" from stock. I have a mustangs backrest and bracket and it needs moved back.
I fabbed up a bracket for the mount for the fender but did not address the stem part yet.
Anyone else run into this with a hammock? Is there a special backrest need for the seat?
I will keep playing with it until I get it right, and hopefully come up with an easy system for when I put on my slim line seat for when the tour pack is off.
Just wondering how you guys felt with this for changing seats.
I finished the bracket move, had to be moved back passed the bolts/studs that come up through the fender and the front mount needed extended so the backrest would be more upright.
While monkeying around under the seat, I must have forgot to plug back in the load equalizer, as my signals are flashing fast. When I pull the seat off again, I will see how difficult it will be to put on the slim seat.
The hammock uses the CVO backrest and mount. The design of that seat is such that all the rest of the backrest are too far forward. There are a few threads on here where a Harley bracket was modded to work with dimensions.
I use my Harley back rest on my stock seat, the sundowner and I have the heated dual hammock, are you saying that a CVO take-off hammock has the rider back rest hole in a different spot? Is this a seat for your 2006, do you have a part number?

Yes, this is for my 06, Part Number 52000072
The slot/hole is about 2" further back then my stock seat. I could fit it through the slot, but it pushed the seat to the point I thought it would rip, and me so far up that I wasn't even sitting on the hammock part.
The seat moved me back enough that I had to adjust my highway pegs, and roll my bars back. It all works now, but it will be a pain to change out seats.

Here's what I did, I canabalized the HD adjustable back rest, and built a bracket that fits in the section of the seat pan right below the slot. The backrest is detachable, but the bracket stays with the seat. Added a jacking bolt the allowed to set the angle for comfort. Maybe not quite what your looking for but perhaps get the cogs turning.
I'm kind of mystified why you're having such trouble with this seat and backrest combination. When I changed out to a Hammock seat, I just used the same stock bracket (not CVO) and backrest I already had. Is there that much difference between the 06 and 08 models?
I had mounting problems with a hammock as well. It just wouldn't fit and it felt like a flimsy piece of junk. I honestly couldn't see why people rave over them. I tried it on my 09 and my 13 and not only did it not fit right on the frame rails but the stock hd backrest wouldnt fit either. I could have taken the hammock and folded almost in half longways with my hand hands thats how flimsy it was. My solution was to sell the seat and buy a mustang dual tour heated seat. Sooooooo much better!
