I hate to point out the obvious here, but which setting is the vent on? If the vent is closed you will experience quite a bit of buffeting. I normally ride with my hat forward and at one point realized I had the vent closed and my hat almost flew off.
You're not alone, and as many have said it's very rider dependent - both the amount of buffeting and the potential fixes.
I did full-day rentals of a '13 and a '14 before buying my SG. While I got occasional minor buffeting on the '13 at 70+ highway speeds, I got beat to pieces on the '14, with ears ringing and headache, and had to get off the highway.
Yes I opened and closed the '14's vent many times on the ride, and it made no discernible difference. This was with a full-face helmet.

You know I notice more buffeting with a helmet on myself. I run a 13" shield now though on my Limited, with the vent open, I don't get any buffeting at all.
Ditto on the comments from others about everyone needing a little something different, even on the same model bike. Having said that, we find a simple solution often does wonders for people depending on where the wind is coming from. Check out the Desert Dawgs soft lowers. They will cut down the buffeting in most cases, and they also protect your legs/feet from rain. http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/harl...n-rain-guards/
I have a 12 sg. I put on a 8" LRS ultra with the flip top. Also, put the wings under the fairing. I have wind to know I am on a bike but no buffeting. I wear a half helmet with a visor and no issues at all.
