Hi, Back again My lady's reverse went out on her -15 tri-glide, and I just got a quote on the replacement motor from HD dealer lol 1730$ (motor only)US (Texas). For awhile I have been contemplating manual reverse on mine, -19 and now I/We have to decide which one to go with as far as the manual conversion (i personally hate the electric motor its a pos) I like the MMD (EurowingsUSA). Talked with MotorTrike. Of course they both say there are better than the other. Have to go thru vendor to get the Motor trike kit, and its direct sales to MMD (EurowingsUSA) So which one is the way to go I value a honest opinion and yall should know me by now I'm not a a troll or anything I just need to find out which is best and safest way to go.
I run the MotorTrike reverse. I like the fact that it has electronic kill switch to prevent transmission damage. If the reverse and the transmission are engaged in gear at the same time, the kill switch will stall the engine.
^^^^^ (What he said.)
I also have a MotorTrike manual reverse, but my bike is 2-wheel. I love the electric kill switch and from what I could determine before purchase the method in which the handle enters the cover there is no oil leak as compared to other brands.
I decided for now to go with motor rebuild kit as a quick sort of band aid fix till I can get more info, I figured after market kit for 119$ for now will suffice. Cant be any worse than the factory motor LOL. The two manual kits I was looking at are from Motor trike and eurowingsusa.mmd according to eurowings you have to purchase a separate additional kit for hydraulic clutch and "guarantee" it wont leak. Moto trike didn't say anything about that. One does have a back up beeper LOL a must.
thanks for the info its the route i am going for now im just going to rebuild it with a kit from IVC, shop later for manual. just not enough info out there atm.
I just did the motor on my '15 FW and found the brushes had frozen in their holders. Some wd40 and electrical spray and working again. Also seen a brush set on amazon for $22.
I had gotten a MMD China takeoff for a little under $500. and it looks like a good kit but am gonna send it back. My concern is if I need parts they aren't available and don't think MMD would want to help as it isn't there product.
BTW: it appears previous owner or someone sprayed oil all over the motor ( to keep it waterproof?) and the area around it wasn't sprayed. Unusual

Thanks in advance.
Get the manual reverse couple different ones and be done with the junk battery HD one . I have the Moto trike one on my sidecar rig.
Have you ever heard or read about the manual one failing ????Except for the Baker they are easy to install.
Or consider this one but do not put HD crap back in.
