There are a lot of things you need to know about buying used, the history of the bike (does it have a full service history, has it been dropped), the performance spec of the used compared to the new, read the old reviews of older bikes and do a search of the forum for information on them. I would not be frightened off by higher milage, the history of the bike is more important if it has been looked after and serviced then for me that is better than some bike that has done low milage but been sitting for most of the year. When ever you look at a used bike take a friend, best someone who knows about bikes, important to get a second opinion. There is more I am sure others will add, those are the things that come to mind for me.
