Hello all! My 72 shovel has a Kelsey Hayes master cylinder "brand new for disc". I Replaced M/C Hoses, cleaned and over-hauled rear caliper. Before and after all this, my rear disc would start to lock up during rides rather I used the rear brakes or not. My only guess on the symptoms is the piston might be cocked in the bore and not releasing properly as the caliper gets "hotter than 2 rats doin it in a wool sock" .I have to open the bleed screw to release the pressure so I can ride again. If anyone has a sure cure fix for this I would appreciate the help. I have the "banana" type caliper on my bike and use silicone fluid. I thought the new Master Cylinder would have cured the problem but it has not.
Happy Riding all.
I have the exact same problem on my bike. The rear brake seizes when the fluid gets too hot. Had a mechanic tear apart the caliper and service it but still the same problem.
Maybe you need to run a high temp brake fluid like they use in roadracing bikes, it has a higher boiling point and I would think it would expand less as a result to heat.

I'm guessing your brake fluid is contaminated. Brake fluid is a hygroscopic (water attracting) fluid. Improper handling is usually the culprit. I would completely flush the brake system with fresh brake fluid from a new unopened container. There's a very good chance this will solve your problem.
