Default Potential New Owner

Hi Everyone -

I just joined. I am not new to riding, but hopefully in the next month will be new to the Owners list of a HD.

I am looking for some direction. I am in between a Heritage and a Road King decision. My biggest question is as to how well the Heritage will be on long distance trips. I rented a RK in Sedona a few years back, and although the bike and the ride was great I am only 5'7", so leg length was a small but apparent issue.

The ride height on a Heritage puts me well into the arena of full flat footage so that is a pretty big advantage - but again, I plan on mostly long distance runs.

Any help, advise, input will be very appreciated.

Roger -

I'm partial to the touring platform, but I know alot of guys that rode their Heritage on long trips with no complaints. A few of them moved up to Road Kings, Street Glides, or Road Glides and say that they wish they had done it sooner. Either one can be changed to suit your needs/comfort. Once this is done, I think you'll be happy with which ever one you choose. Good Luck!

Welcome from San Jose, CA. For what it's worth, I ride a 2011 Heritage Softail. I was on a ride to Death Valley this past October. It was a 1000 mile ride over 3 days and more comfortable than the 1998 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 I had before.

Lower the RK by an 1" front and rear. Throw on some apes and you're good to go!

I'm the same height and my next sled will be an aped out RKC.

I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam and can flat foot my 2010 SG after putting an after market seat on it.

Lower the RK and maybe change the seat and you will be happy. The Heritages are good bikes but the touring bikes are really sweet. When it comes to putting miles on them, you couldn't ask for a better bike.
