I think @Keggr hit the nail on the head. Many folks over-pressurize their tires. Some read the max pressure and figure that's what it should be, when in fact, it SHOULD be much less.
OP, your tire looks like the tread gets real good not too far from the center line of the tire (no chicken strips joke at all!!!!) and to me, that says you could likely use a couple pounds less for most of your riding. Just my .002
Another thing that can shorten a rear tire's life is how you shift -- up, and down. With some brake and a quick downshift, it doesn't take too much to get a little slipping of the rear tire. That adds up over time. Again, here's a couple of cents (sense)....
