With spoked wheels using tire/tube combination, do you have to change the tubes when you change the tires, or are the tubes reusable?
... yeah you can make fun of me now ...
No, not going to make fun of ya...at least this time...!
It is not recommended that tubes be reused. The reason is simple: the tubes flex (and therefore heat up) at the same rate as your tire sidewalls do while riding. The tubes are not designed to do this forever, it just isn't physically possible. Reusing the tube means that you have a tire that has flexed far less than the tube has. The tube has therefore experienced more stress from the constant flexing over a longer period of time. Sooner or later, the tube will fail , and you will be S.O.L., as tubes also cannot be repaired.
It wasn't an issue of cash. I honestly didn't know how often one should replace the tubes. I just put so much focus on looking for a deal on tires that I hit me recently that I may need tubes as well.
Even if it isn't necessary, for the peace of mind it's worth it.
