Default Detachable lock for quick release tour pak kit?

I installed Harley's detachable tour-pak kit pn 53303-07. I love the way the bike looks without the tour-pak, but worried that it also made it quite easy to remove if I was on a road trip somewhere, so I installed a detachable lock kit pn 46063-98. The problem is that the way the lock sits on there it doesn't allow the long barrel key enough clearance to actually get in there to unlock it, so during my trip in the adirondacks I ended up removing it at night and bringing it into the hotel room with me. I thought about cutting the key down to make it shorter, but haven't tried this yet.

Has anyone faced this situation?

Thanks,
Merle

I cut the key down and re-bent it so that it would work. Not a problem.

If youare asking about the lock only, it takes about 15 minutes to install. If you are talking about the whole quick detach kit for the tour pac, it is 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get the old bracket off and the new all on.

Price for the lock is about 20.00. the Conmplete quick detach kit is over 200.00 for everything.

I bought mine at Zanotti's for $24.14, but it doesn't work worth a **** on my detachable Sissy Bar and rear docking kit. The latch it replaces goes into the docking point perfectly but this piece of crap is made different and is hard to get it latched and even harder to unlatch it. I'm taking it off and going back to the standard latch the came with the Sissy Bar.

I cut mine and just bent the end up 90 degrees in a vise using a hammer. Just remember that when you go to bend itthat you have it clocked right in the vise. You want to make sure that the bend isn't going to be facing into the docking component.
