Been burning the heel of my boot on the new 14 Ultra Limited. After searching here and elsewhere and not liking what i saw, i came across a heel guard that HD sells. Some of the complaints i have read about the chrome rod turn down or out type is that if the floor board comes up all the way itll hit the guard and potentially cause damage to both the guard and possibly the pipe.
The one from HD is a different design but appears not to offer the greatest degree of protection against melting your heel on the pipe. It looks like it doesnt come up high enough to really keep your heel away from the pipe.
Maybe its just the picture? Anyone install this or another heel guard on their Ultra Limited? Part #50500225 http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...eel-guard#tabs
I installed that part on my Ultra Classic. Nice looking, easy to install, and I've yet to melt my heel after 7,000 miles. My heel bumped the exhaust 3 times previously. I recommend it.
If you're meaning this one (see pic), I had reservations about it when I thought about purchasing and installing it. I kept getting black rubber from my boot on the pipe and from the looks of the heel guard, I doubted it would prevent that. Well....after putting it on, I can absolutely say it works. I haven't put another mark from boots on the pipes since installing it. No issues, blends in well and works as hoped for. Highly recommended.

I have the HD guard, it works, no issues with pipes and it prevents the heel from touching the pipe. Also it does not interfere with your foot position etc.
Thanks All, Picked it up on the way home tonight and will put it on over the weekend. Looks like itll do the trick and appears to be well made. Bolts on, although i see that one hole needs to be drilled in the floorboard after removing the rubber pad. Not a big deal but between removing the rubber foot pad and drilling the hole, it was going to take more daylight than i had. Sucks not having a garage i tell ya.
