Thought I'd pick the brains of the forum on this one.
Both oxygen sensors and the ACR (automatic compression release) valve failed at the same time. When I say failed, I mean I'm getting the 3 codes that tell me these items are unresponsive.
I'm reasonably experience in the automotive world and this sounds to me like something common failed and the unresponsiveness of these 3 items at the same time is a symptom not a cause.
Does anybody know if these 3 items happen to have soemthing in common. Perhaps a single ground point, a single harness or connector, etc.
Id start with have you changed anything? Removed the tank at all? There's a channel with a hundred wires or better that run under the tank inside a plastic channel, and if they aren't set properly, they could pinch. I can look in the manual at wiring and see if maybe the three share a ground or something.
The manual is on my short list of things to get, I know it's definitely worth the price. But, I don't have one yet.
The only change I've made is installing a corbin seat. It does have a heater that's connected essentially through a fuse tap. It really shouldn't have impacted anything else but shouldn't != didn't and a fuse would count as a single common item. I'll undo the fuse tap and see if that clears it up.
Fixed. It was the fuse tap, sort of. The fuse that went in to the tap wasn't connecting both legs. Something about that fuse was just odd, I didn't mic it but I expect one of the legs was just too thin. A different fuse and I was able to clear the codes.
Interestingly I wasn't able to clear these particular codes while the problem was presenting itself, basically you'd go through the clear routine but they'd immediately come back which makes sense because the circuit was broken.
This was the top center 7.5a fuse marked as "system".
Not overly familiar with HD sensor circuits, but with Cat, we have signal wires that carry specific voltage to the sensor as a reference, sometimes to multiple sensors. When that signal is lost or erratic or intermittent, all the sensors on that signal wire circuit will throw a code. Good find, I was going to say go right to that fuse tap. I never use those things for reasons specifically like this one.
