Would really like to hear your feedback after you put it in, 'cause I have my doubts. I did try something else someone here suggested, when going from neutral to first, "pump the clutch a couple of times and move the bike backwards a little (couple inches) then put it in gear." I tried it yesterday and it slipped right into first with no clunk. Did you buy the RL Primary Case Oil as shown above or something other.
I'll update after I do the change, probably sometime this week. I really didn't get this because of the clunk although if the R/L quiets that down then that's a plus. I'm hoping it quiets down the Primary noise, so loud, almost like the chain slapping around inside there. Two different dealers looked at it and both said it's normal so I don't think anything's broke but the noise sucks. I'll let you all know what happens, if it works I'll change the tranny oil to R/L too. Just did the 5K service 1200 miles ago and used Formula+.
theres a cycle gear close to me, im gonna switch too. just had the 1k done, dealer put in formula plus in both primary and tranny, seems a shame to waste all that coin to just dump it out to switch. ill wait til the 5k.

Thanks, your reply will be welcome. The op said after they put in the RL and... "Put it into first and it slipped in like a hot knife through butter." So I would really like to see if you find the same or was it BS.
I just changed to the redline. Mainly because of this thread. Got it at Cycle Gear $16.
The clunk has never been excessive but the compensator rattle is annoying sometimes.
What do you mean by compensator rattle. Noise and vibration when you let out the clutch when in neutral?

It will make the noise when hot and idling. No excessive metals on any of the drain plugs and the oils seem to look good and feel good. So I'm saying it's the compensator its on the left front, but pulling the clutch or not really don't change it.
Hope you guys have the same results that I did. I'm still amazed at how soft and quiet the shift is from neutral to first even when cold.
I'm going on a road trip from SoCal to Yosemite and then over to the coast and back home next week. I'll try and remember to post back here on how it's doing with some more miles on it.
Just to be clear on my part..........with red line neutral is much easier to find. I do still get a clunk going into first most of the time. Once in a while it will slip in quietly.
This is a bit hard to believe. A primary oil that cuts down on the clunk. I use the RL in my trany and don't hear much difference. If RL primary helps this much, that's great, but I thought the clunk came from the trany, but if this is true then the clunk is coming from the primary, right?

Kinda wondered about that too, I thought the clunk was a transmission thing. And as I stated, my goal is to cut down primary noise and that's why I'm trying the R/L Primary oil.
