May be a crazy idea but I want to add the Boom II fairing speakers to my 15 Ultra without adding the amp. Does anyone know if this can be done? Dealer says no. The new speakers need the extra power of the amp to run.
I would suggest that if you are considering a speaker change then the sound is unsatisfactory to you as it is now. Just do the inevitable and pony up for the amp too. You will be totally satisfied with the whole kit.

Can't really be done. The speakers require two sets of speaker wires each and a crossover to separate the high frequencies from the low. The normal Boom II system utilizes the amp to adjust the output frequencies. Without the amp, the speakers won't work as intended.
I have the Boom I speakers from my CVO that I'd let go for a reasonable price. I put in an aftermarket system last year after buying and removing the Boom II on my CVO.

Its simple. They are a bipole speaker and simply need the correct crossover. Its 3000kz high pass for the tweeter and low pass for the mid/woofer. Harley even tells you the frequency here: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...iring-speakers
Know that without an amplifier the volume will be lower but you can give it a try and then decide if you want an amp.
I installed the Infinity Kappa 62.11i's with stock head unit in my 14 Ultra Limited. Fidelity is night and day over stock. Was planning amp, but decided to hold off because all the flash issues others were having. Wonder over to the audio forum. There is a lot of excellent information over there and really helpful members. If you are not looking for a much louder system, this worked great for what I was looking for.
