Any ideas on what is wrong? Could it be that the connection plug on my bike is bAD?

First off welcome to the forum and the world of Infotainment updates.

My comments/instructions were not meant to be comprehensive because HD web site lists the steps pretty well.

When i posted this some time ago, it was the first time that i recall HD providing the update, 120.2 for the infotainment Operating system and the dealer data base update at the same time.

If given the opportunity to control what happens, i try to control the variables the best that i can. So i downloaded the infotainment update 120.2 and then updated the infotainment system. For me this is the most important update.

Then after my infotainment system update was installed and I had a copy of 120.2 saved on my desktop. I then deleted it from the usb, reformatted and downloaded the dealer data base, nice to have but certainly not a critical update for me.

The reason i suggested that forum members do it this way was because as i recall many members were having issues two separate updates, same usb, unzipping root directory, etc, etc.

So why not do one at a time to prevent any possible conflicts.

That was the purpose of my post.

By the way I have been using 1.20.2, the bad one, since October without any issues at all. I have an IPOD connected to the usb, and an old iphone 4S with music, blu tooth connection and my Iphone 6 + blu tooth as well, hooked up to the infotainment and i select which ever one i want from the media screen.

But I think most, more than 50% of the members probably had an issue the first time they tried to do their first update that they ever tried. But after doing a couple of updates it becomes pretty routine.

You have to unzip the compressed file and copy the selection to the flash drive. I didn't do that, so it wouldn't work when I loaded the "zipped" file to my USB stick.

And thanks for the sarcastic reply to me!

I took my bike into the Harley Dealer today and one of the techs that takes care of me did the upgrade. You can't believe how many steps he had to go through! Then he rebooted the system like you do with a PC to get all the downloads to take.

I repeat, those instructions on the website SUCK!, and are completely lacking in info that it takes to do a proper upgrade. That's the reason so many here are having issues with their "upgrade".

I guess you could expect some sarcasm, when you tell everyone here, that the instructions are wrong.....most of us did the update, without issue. I admit that I too, had an issue the first time, but went back and followed the instructions and it worked great!

My guess is you didn't format the USB stick, after you initially copied the whole file to the disc. As for the dealer, my guess would be that they have a USB drive that the file is downloaded on and only need to plug it in to any bike to update (maybe two, one for standard and one for CVO). I didn't do a reset, but the system seems to be operating as it is supposed to.

At any rate, welcome to the forum and ride safe!

Hey, you complained, were told by at least 3 people that the instructions clearly tell you what to do but you argued. What did you expect? It has nothing to do with being "techi", it has everything to do with just following directions.

Misunderstanding directions isn't anyone's fault. If you didn't understand what "unzip the compressed file" meant, I can see that happening. At least there's google or bing or any other search to help you out. If you can get as far to sign up for a forum and navigate it and ask questions here, you can certainly figure it out.

You can always go to the dealer also!

why would you have to do a reset ? if the update is installed correctly it seems like this wpuld not be needed.

Think of it like clearing out the cache occasionally in your internet browser. Most times you don't really need to do it, but every once in a while it's good to do a deep clean. It seems to clean up some small issues, at least sometimes.

The side tone for the CB radio did not function after the last update so I did a reset for the first time and now it works. I think I will do a reset with every update from now on.

I think you have to have a certain amount of thick skin on here and any forum. Like yourself, I'm new on here and have taken my share of good natured abuse. Coming from metrics, I asked a whole bunch of very basic Harley 101 questions but always got a response. Bottom line is people here want to help you and will if you give them a chance. I haven't done the update yet and was also confused by the procedure but the key seems to be the unzipping. Hopefully when the time comes it works for me. Bob

Browser cache, temp folder and program data update files more than likely need to be cleaned on Windows computers. (Mostly caused by lazy programs not deleting files as they should, not really a Windows fault)
Sorry for this non valid input but i was bored

Thick skin? I'm a fairly hard person, but have a very quick temper. The response I got was uncalled for, and I guarantee it would not have been the same one I received had I been standing face to face.

It also was an excellent time for someone that claims they had done the update successfully to ask how they could help me, if they thought I was so dumb. I guess that isn't the modus operandi on this forum.

One other point, I posted that because I had read so many other posts here about how disappointed others were with the upgrade, and how some things didn't work, so I guess I'm not the only one that failed to bet all the instructions(which weren't there BTW). Like where was the step to do a "RESET" ? HUH?
