GOV5....calm down. No sense in being all defensive. YOU were the one that said the instructions were wrong (and they clearly are not). If you didn't know how to unzip the file, I'm sure others here would help. As for the reset, it is not in the instructions. I didn't do a reset and everything seems to be operating, as it should. I think others have done it, with the hopes that some issues would be resolved and it did, so they share that with others.

People here are very helpful. You will find a certain amount of ribbing, from time to time and most is good natured fun. Come off like a hard *** and you will be treated as someone nobody will want to help.

Have fun and ride safe!!

It also was an excellent time for someone that claims they had done the update successfully to ask how they could help me, if they thought I was so dumb. I guess that isn't the modus operandi on this forum.

One other point, I posted that because I had read so many other posts here about how disappointed others were with the upgrade, and how some things didn't work, so I guess I'm not the only one that failed to bet all the instructions(which weren't there BTW). Like where was the step to do a "RESET" ? HUH?
The response I gave was EXACTLY called for. You were told several times the directions were on the HD website. Instead of reading & following the directions, you had a fit, blew up & bitched about HD not putting directions on the download page. You actually read the directions after getting the wake up message. I tempered my response with an animated icon to show you it was sarcastic but not meant to be mean spirited. As far as a face to face response, KMA! You gonna act like a jerk & blow up in my face, you'll get even less help.

All the instructions ARE THERE to download & install the software update. The reset procedure is not required to download & install the software update. You are fully aware of that, yet continue to whine & make excuses. You've been told thick skin goes a long ways here yet you continue to be pi$$ed off at those that reply with actual help.

Grow up or go away.

You have to unzip the compressed file and copy the selection to the flash drive. I didn't do that, so it wouldn't work when I loaded the "zipped" file to my USB stick.

And thanks for the sarcastic reply to me!
BTW - Copying the file from within the zipped folder to the USB thumb drive is all that's needed to unzip the file. And that's what the instructions said to do. Now you know!

As mentioned, the instructions posted on the HD site work just fine.

They don't tell you to do a "reset" because you don't really have too.
It is NOT a required step.

That is just something that a few users here feel seem to work for them.
I have never once did a factory reset, and never once had any issues with the update.

Let me try to explain where my frustration began, and what prompted my tirade, if you will.

When I got to step "C", I was already lost. I opened the zipped file and saw the listing there. But I totally did not understand HOW to copy to the root directory. Since there were no other files or windows/etc OPEN, I didn't know what to do with the COPY I had made. Therefore, the frustration at that point. Now remember, at this time I had not understood even which one of the 2 or 3 choices WITHIN the zipped file to even copy.

Are you starting to get a handle on how remedial I am when it comes to the process? LOL!! Things that you take for granted about doing with a computer maybe WAY beyond my understanding, because I have never been exposed to it. Once exposed, and taught, I learn, and remember. So what you and others here may have interpreted as VERY BASIC instructions, looked like Greek to me.

I hAVE been a good boy and have Googled "How To " info about root directories, what they are, and where they are located. I know what they are now, but not sure WHERE they are, and how to access them for copying/pasting to them.

Therefore, now having an understanding on my incompetence in these manners( and I don't mean that sarcastically..I mean literally ) can you figure out a dialog that can explain to me, in terms you think I might understand, how to execute the Harley Website Instructions at Step "C" of the process instructions? And I understand how hard that may be for you, since I understand so little about what tahat root directory stuff was all about.

And truly, I would appreciate the help. THX in advance.

Don't worry. There is nothing intuitive about this process. To further complicate the process, you can do the procedure 100% properly, yet it is hit-or-miss whether your achieved results are 100% accurate. Hence, some more advanced members take additional steps which apparently solve problems inherent in the updates. Those less advanced members [me] simply get the system to an acceptable level and stop messing with it.

I see your frustration and believe me, I get where you are coming from. I too, am no computer whiz. I'm at work now, on my phone, but if someone can give you the specifics of how to do it, that would be great. If someone doesn't give you a detailed method, I'll try to help when I can get to my PC.

We could use a step by step You Tube video given by someone who can talk plainly and leave the computer terms out of the process For both Windows and Mac. PC lingo looses me and I'm gathering many others also, thus a lot of confusion

Plenty of videos here. https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...avidson+1.20.3

Sorry, I don't have time right now to sort through and see if any have a more simple explanation, but hopefully one or more do.

OK

Let's try it this way:

1st image is the compressed (zipped) download with the required ISO file selected -

2nd image is the empty USB drive that will be copied to -

3rd image shows the ISO file being dragged & dropped into the empty USB drive -

4th image shows the copy in progress. This copy places an uncompressed copy of the ISO file on the USB Drive in its' root directory. Note the copying size is larger than the compressed file size in the ZIP folder -

5th image shows the copied ISO file in the root directory of the USB Drive. Note the file size now; uncompressed -

This help?
