Being new to Rushmore and hearing some of the horror stories a couple of years back I was dreading doing the updates. But thanks to all that have posted here I just completed the update for the unit and the dealer locator. Both went very smooth and easy. Had also created a new all two lane route to Daytona (80% 2 lane) and uploaded that in the GPS.

I have also been experimenting with the phone and it works very well! I like that I can play the music through the motorcycle speakers which my wife prefers but I can hear the GPS prompts and use the phone through my headset.

At first I really thought this system was a real pain in the A$$. The more I use it the more I like it.

Ride safe.

4. Release power/mute button and accept warning.

The service menu may display Diag Service not Available when a menu option is initially selected. This message will clear once the system has finished performing the power-on process.

Options are:
- DTCs,
- Audio,
- Display,
- Key input,
- Component menus,
- Version info,
- Reset,
- Touchscreen.

Reset:

Pre-calibration reset:
- Restores factory default settings.
- This is recommended when there are radio symptoms and no DTCs.

Post calibration save:
- Archives customer’s settings so that they can be restored after a Post calibration Reset.

Post calibration reset:
- Resets the radio to factory default settings and restores the last archive data stored during Post calibration Save.
My RGS has been flashed for 4 speakers. If I do a factory reset will the dealer need to flash for 4 speakers again or will that be retained?

No, my dealers did my reset after he updated. Works MUCH, MUCH better. It's actually a pretty good version. However, if you have favorites saved, you will loose them. At least the saved song tracks from my iPod, and I think I have to reset the bluetooth's connection to my phone.

Do the Infotainment update first.

Do not download the dealer data base update on the same usb at the same time.

After you install the infotainment update, you can copy or move it from the usb to your desk top, reformat your usb and then do the dealer data base update.

I downloaded the new software to my desktop, then moved it to my Sandisk 32GB flash drive. When I took the USB flash drive to the bike and plugged it in, turned the radio system on, and got a message saying "No playable media found". I guess that is why the "MEDIA" was never highlighted as an option on the selection screen.

Any ideas on what is wrong? Could it be that the connection plug on my bike is bAD?

Unzip the contents of the download to your thumb drive, not the zip file itself. Copy it to the "root" directory.

The Harley site NEVER mentioned that process!

I went to the Harley dealer this AM and they went through a VERY involved process to install the Software. Some of the problems some are experiencing here are probably due to not knowing the full process that has to be done!

I hate instructions that are not detailed on what to do! And that's EXACTLY what the Harley website does. URGHHHHHHHH!

Copied straight from the download page....So, yeah, it's there.

SOFTWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Verify your audio system’s current software version.
a. Select the following display menu items: “Home/Set-up/System Information Software Version”.
b. Record the software version.
c. Compare your audio system’s software version with the latest version available on this page.
d. If the software versions are the same, you have the latest software available and there is no need to update. If a higher level
software level is available on harley-davidson.com, continue to update your audio system.

NOTE: Do not interrupt the installation process. Leave the vehicle and radio turned on, and keep the USB flash drive installed until the installation process is complete.

2. Download the latest software version from harley-davidson.com
a. Select "Download Software Update" for the appropriate system.
b. When prompted, save the compressed file to your computer desktop.
c. When the download is complete, copy the file within the zipped folder to the root directory (the first or top most directory in
a file system) of a USB flash drive that is 8 GB or larger.

d. Turn your vehicle's ignition switch to ACCESSORY. (Keyless ignition vehicles: press and hold the trip switch for more than
two seconds).
e. Turn on the audio system and connect the USB flash drive to the audio system's USB port.
f. The audio system will detect the new software available and ask if you want to update. Select “Yes”. The display will prompt
you to remove the USB drive when the update is complete.

NOTE: If the incorrect software file for your audio system is copied to the USB flash drive, and connected to the audio system's USB port, the following error message will result: "The ISO image on the attached USB is corrupt or incompatible".

I am here to tell you that those instructions aren't even close!

I took my bike into the Harley Dealer today and one of the techs that takes care of me did the upgrade. You can't believe how many steps he had to go through! Then he rebooted the system like you do with a PC to get all the downloads to take.

I repeat, those instructions on the website SUCK!, and are completely lacking in info that it takes to do a proper upgrade. That's the reason so many here are having issues with their "upgrade".

The instructions on the website work just fine, but you have to be able to READ, UNDERSTAND & FOLLOW those directions.

As for the HD Tech, he's got the routine down pat: dazzle you with BS so you think he's the only one that can do the updates.
