Default Legends Air-A Post Install notes

Greetings all. I just thought I'd pass along some notes from my recent Legends Air-A installation. First, the youtube video by J&P cycles is great. It will basically take you all the way through the installation step by step. Unfortunately, there are a couple things I discovered while doing the install that are not mentioned or covered, as well as "on the road" experience that I learned that may help the next person doing the install. I've added these same notes to the comments on the JP video, but since some come here first asking for input/advice, I thought I'd put it here, too. I'm semi-mechanical and have done some updates/maintenance on my bike. This is probably up there with the biggest ones I've done. SO . . . I know if I can do it, you can - just be patient, dont get in a hurry, take your time and it will come together fine.

Youtube video:

I installed these on a 2017 Ultra Limited CVO
I took the front outer fairing off to thread the harness through the handlebar hole before going back under the tank and zip-tying it next to the OEM harness. I'd almost recommend doing this on a separate day, just to break up the install a bit if you're having to do it after work or like me, you want to take your time. After all, $2K is a lot of money.
From now on, you'll have to drop this pump assy to change the transmission and engine oil. You'll see the drain plugs on the engine are directly in this same space when he's mounting the pump around 9:50 in the video.

It took a little bit to determine the best rotation for the pump outlet valve. The assembly is "L" shaped and the section that the hose attaches to runs parallel to the engine towards the back. The hose attachment rotates to either side of that assembly so the hose can come off on the outside or the inside and face front or back. I finally rotated that end towards the inside, with the outlet facing forward so the hose looped towards the pump and then over to the frame on the right side to travel along the frame to the right wiring harness and up as in the video. Look at the orientation of the pump lying on the floor as he's routing the hose at about 9:45 in the video.
Be VERY aware of how close the air line is to the exhaust if you are following the above and threading it back up on the right side. One inch or so is not enough. Here are two tips: A) find some 5/32" ID hose and cut about 8-12", thread the air line through this and use it as an insulator to protect the air line at the frame where it goes from horizontal to the pump to vertical up the frame with the wiring harness and B) make sure it is BEHIND the OEM harness and zip-tie in place. Ask me how I know . . .
Be very aware of how the hose threads to the shock forward under the side covers. There is a tendency to crush the line - you may want to use the same hose mentioned above to prevent that where it goes under the cover.
I'm 225 and found the "2" setting riding solo pretty good.
Go ahead and order the "roadside repair kit" or at least the 8' spare hose and put it in your saddlebag for peace of mind.
It took me about 3 hours overall taking my time and trying to be very thorough - not the "whole day" my local dealer told me it would take. Again, $2K is a lot of money.

I almost went this route, not enough reviews so went the safer route with the Revo-A.
What are your thoughts on ride quality?

I'm curious as well. I've got an older set of spring remote reservoir shocks, and have hummed and hawed about the legends air systems. A followup / report would be much appreciated.

I had Legends install these on my 21 road glide limited while in sturgis in 2022. Road home back to Minnesota and immediately removed them from the bike and got a refund. The ride sucked no matter what i set them too and having to remove the air pump to change the fluids would have made for more headaches then they were worth. My 2 pennies.

Thank you - that settles it for me.

Seems to do well as air shocks go - better than stock and the adjustable rebound helps smooth out the ride

removing the pump for changing trans and engine oil does add to the effort and planning ahead. You have to raise the shocks to max, slide in a scissor jack far enough back to allow access to the drain plugs, drop the pump assy and slide it out of the way OR unplug air line and wire harness, oil change, put it back on, drop the bike down onto the ground before re-filling the shocks.

As a follow up - the best of both worlds, for me, would have the switch, pump and tank from dirty air (mounted behind the saddlebag) and the Legend shocks.
