One more question about upgraded windshields & winshield bags
Put 500 miles on my new SGS this past weekend, much of it at highway speeds of 80+ MPH. My buddies on Ultra's were loving life while I was getting the heck buffeted out of my head the entire time. I desperately want to resolve this wind issue but do not want to give up my HD tri-pocket windshield bag that I love in the process. I am only 5'9" but can comfortably see over the stock windshield, but am concerned that switching to an 8 1/2" Klock Werks (which I hear can still accommodate these bags) will limit my vision too much. The 6 1/2" K/W's would probably be fine for me, but then I don't think that I could still use my bags. I've looked online at Clearview, Freedom Shields, LRS, HD's Wind Splitter, but do not know which one's really work and/or would be best for my application.
I've seen numerous people on this forum swear by the Klock Werks and I've looked the his videos and they all look great.....cleaner air, extra down-force, etc., but I've also heard in other cases that this is all just hype. Does anyone who rides a 2104 SGS that is around my height, have experience with a windshield that solves this problem while still being able to use the HD tri-pocket windshield bags?
Also, any feedback from those with experience using of the Fairing Fangs or the Fork-mounted Wind Deflectors (#57400146A) on a 2104 SGS with regard to how they might help, would be greatly appreciated as well.
You will get many different answers on this issue. Some people get buffeted like crazy and others experience zero buffeting with the stock setup. I have a 2014 SGS and was feeling the buffeting even with the vent open. I have the stock windshield. I put on the JES Customs fork wind deflectors and with the combination of the vent, there is virtually zero buffeting at 80 or higher. I am 5'10" and don't like the higher windshields.
I installed the HD fangs on my Fiancé's '14 SG and it made a night and day difference. Less than $100, looks good and takes about 10 minutes to install.
I'm 6' and have the KW 8.5" shield and it is the best shield I've used as far as clean air goes. I had all kinds of glasses shaking issues and this shield has corrected 90% of that problem. I had the stock shield and the LRS 7" recurve and the stock sucked. The LRS 7" help considerably but I still got the glasses shaking issue on the hwy above 70mph. When I first installed the KW it took a bit to get use to and I actually took it off and put the 7" back on the bike for one 200 mile ride. As soon as I got home from that ride I put the KW 8.5" back on because it works so much better to keep my glasses still. I also tried the fangs with the 7" LRS and they worked very well but I could not get over the look and did not like the extra heat I felt here in Texas on 100 degree plus days. I bought a set of soft lowers to use this winter to try and keep the cold air off of me.
Perhaps I should have been a little clearer, but the "buffeting" that I was referring (as Webo mentions) is not to the bike (or faring) itself, but to my head/helmet/glasses while riding. In fact, when I turn my head sideways in order to do a quick head-check before switching lanes, the wind is tearing at my helmet lifting it off of my head. Do the "fangs" and/or "deflectors" help with this problem?
I am 6' tall I have the KW 8.5,Harley fangs and Freedom wings.I have zero buffeting and the freedom wings allow me to direct air when and if I get warm.

Re-curved shields redirect wind and rain up a few inches so helps clear your head and helmet. Any of them are probly fine as all seem to get reviewed well here. I went w/ Freedom Shield and am happy with the results. I stayed 10" which is same as stock for a Limited. 3 pouch bag still fits just fine though it is no longer "hugging" the windshield. There is now a gap between the bag and shield I believe because the FS is a little more straight up as opposed to angled back. Actually works better because now I can get a cloth down there to clean. Also use the JES fork deflectors because I'm a believer in them. Most like them; some don't. Your choice.
I went to the HD recurve windshield, just for clearance in my trailer...and I thought it looked cool. It lines up just below my chin, and directs the wind over my helmet. But, don't event think of trying to look through it. It creates huge visual distortion.
Btw...at speed with my fairing side vents closed eliminates any buffeting.
