Hi All,

Has anyone hardwired their GPS on their Fat Bob?
I know that there's an Electrical Connection Update Kit (Part: 69201599A),
but that is added under the left cover under the seat and I really don't want to pull the GPS power wire all the way to the seat.

It looks like there are quite a few ports with Molex connectors under the left rubber cover between the bars and the tank.
Has anyone used one of these to wire a GPS into them and knows which one it is (and which connector would be needed)?

I really don't feel like paying the dealer to do this for me, especially considering the fact that they overcharge for everything and don't always do the job right.
I just paid them for 4 hours of labor to do my front and rear lights (LEDs) - and guess what - all they did was just cut the wires, connected in the new LED lights and did not even bother adding any LED flasher unit
to prevent the fast flashing in the console and charged me for 4 hours. I figured that the 4 hour charge came from the fact that they would have to take off the tank, solder in the can-bus flasher unit to both left and right blinker wires,
but no, they just decided that it's ok to practically rob me with this 4 hour labor charge and not do the job right.....

Sorry for the rant, if you have any knowledge about the open ports under that rubber cover, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

There is a USB port just below all the connectors in front of the tank. You should be able to plug right into that.

Wait, what? They installed 4 turn signals for 4 hours labor? What parts did you have them install?

You can clear the fast flashing in one of two ways, if they are BCM compliant, 1) set ignition to run but don’t start. Activate hazards. Shut off ignition. Run hazards for 5 minutes. Turn ignition back on, and shut off hazards, then ignition. That should clear fast flashing if the LEDs are compatible. I think there is also a switch in the BCM the dealer tech computer can enable. For 4 hours labor (again, for what?) you should be able to roll in and have them set it for free.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I know about the port. Unfortunately, plugging into it is not going to work because it's a Garmin Zumo and the cradle for it blocks the port - also, plugging a USB wire into it sets it into mass storage / upgrade mode.

I was hoping that someone has already made sense out of the available ports under the rubber cover on the left side

I'm not sure what you mean by "available ports"? I don't have any unused plugs under there on my bike? Here is a pic of the plugs.

If you open the plastic box that the usb port is mounted on, there is a connector in there for the usb port. You could remove it and wire up your own to plug into it instead of the usb port. It is 2 wires, accessory power, and ground.

Or you could buy this and wire it up to plug into the existing port on the bike.

Oh, they were just LED replacement lights for the huge lights on the Bob: Kuryakyn Bullet 1000 DF (for the rear) and for the front - something like these Drag Specialties LED lights here: https://www.jpcycles.com/product/240...ith-smoke-lens

What's flashing fast are the turn arrows in the speedo - the lights themselves function fine and flash at a normal frequency. But the fast flashing of the arrows is driving me nuts......

Now, the only reason I went to the dealer is because I saw on youtube that when the front lights are installed, you need to lift the tank and solder in a can-bus blinker load equalizer - something like this: https://www.ms-biketec.de/shop/harle...zer-ll-can-bus

That's the only reason I accepted the 4 hours labor - if you have to empty the tank and do that work, then it makes sense. What they did in "4" hours, I could've done that in 2 hours myself, and I'm not exactly handy with a soldering iron.

I also tried going through the step you recommend below (thank you), but that did not help - the arrows flash as if a bulb is out.

I have to go argue with them.... What a PITA.....

Ah, awesome, thanks - great picture - was looking for one of those

I guess the video I saw of the guy fitting cruise control showed ports that he unplugged before he showed them.

I guess I have to dig around and look and see if I can can split the port into which the USB plugs into (on the inside) with this: https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...ension-harness
So that I can have the USB (to charge my phone if needed) and the GPS wired.

Thank you for your help and the great pics
