I am 23 and just bought my first Harley. Bought used from the local dealership with stage one already installed (2 into 2 big radius V&H), not 100% sure abt the air cleaner, I think its the 90 deg Arlen ness. I'm also not sure what tuner was used on the bike.. I've looked a couple times (didn't pull anything but the side covers off) and haven't seen a tuner plugged in there still. But i was told that it was tuned. No running issues at all, this thing is a beast!
I'm looking to go with the S&S 475C cam chest kit, that has the cam, inner bearing, adj. pushrods, tappet cuffs, chain tensioner, oil pump, cam chest, and lifters ($1450). Then get a powervision to try and tune with. Not really looking to dyno it.
I've heard that the big radius open pipes can cause some problems as far as tuning goes with this cam. I specifically want this cam bc of the sound, i love it. Performance is just a +. Especially with the big radius pipes, they sound wickeddd. I don't care how loud it will be, and I don't care abt dyno numbers, this thing is already fast as hell so anything extra is just icing on the cake.
If anyone could shine some light on this subject it would be greatly appreciated... Just don't want to run into any unexpected problems when i go to do this upgrade.
Pipes are Bassani, pro street turnouts. Drag pipes, so they have a pretty good crack to them when you get on it. Not as loud as the Bassani radial sweepers or V&H short shots. The pipes are stepped, 1-3/4” head pipes, stepping up to 2” then to 2-1/2” & the baffles are welded in. They probably don’t sound as deep as a 2 into 1 pipe, but I liked the looks better. They sit a little lower than the stock pipes maybe. Pretty sure @ stock height these pipes will scrape before the pegs. I have air ride, so if I’m out carving up the curves, I raise it up.
If you’re comparing pictures, the Bassani pipes relocate the passenger peg, so the peg is moved up from the stock height. Notice both pipes are below the peg, VS one pipe from the factory.

Reason: Adding additional info.
Finally got all the parts together to get started on my upgrades. I used a lot of Thunderbike parts and my builder and I were both impressed with the quality. So far I am doing a steel rear fender, longer tank (alum), headlight cap (alum), and fiberglass front fender and belly pan. Suspension is Legend Air and a front fork lowering kit, Metz tires (260/120). There is still a lot of work to do and then paint and powdercoat. I'll put up a pic when it is further along.
