Was watching Matt Laidlaw's latest YouTube video review on the 2019 FXBB
During the review he showed off a brand new dealer announcement from HDU for Forward Controls for the FXBB & FXLR model M8 Softails.
Yeah, my parts guy called me about this last week, figuring since I’m over 6’ I may want them. Totally forgot to mention it here. No interest here though. I prefer my legs under me and don’t mind the riding position at all.
Good to hear this. The forwards are still not showing on the online accessories catalog for the Low Rider.
I'm short, and the first thing I thought about the Low Rider is that it felt like a Sportster sitting on it. Definitely feels small compared to my Dyna - which I converted to mids cause the forwards were too long a reach and the mids give better control, period.
Dunno about changing this LR to forwards. Gonna get some miles on her first. Might want to try out the Tall Boy seat first before changing to forwards. Sounds crazy, but maybe others have tried it on the LR?
True mid controls put your feet basically under your butt. Think of a dirt bike type set up. For some (like me) it gives a much better feel for balance and control. It centralizes your weight instead of spreading it. Highway pegs or forward controls are great for cruising where you can stretch out and relax, but I'm very tall - and thin. Much of my weight is in my legs. In the twisties I have much better control with my feet under my butt and my knees hugging the tank.
The intermediate controls on my FXBB just feel awkward. Then of course there is that weird foot-long shifter lever. I've begun looking at a set of relocation plates to move the pegs back a couple inches, but its still in the concept phase. Maybe later this year I'll get serious about it. In the meantime, I for one do like the intermediates better than forwards where there is only one choice.
