Thats's a strange one ,and no they don't all do that .
HD tolerances right, it sounded like the throttle blade in the FI unit but got loud around the other side low down near the clutch ?
If IT's not getting hot and It's in warranty right , you know what to do.
If there is in fact something wrong, it will break sooner or later. It does run fine with no issues though.
Quick update to keep track of this - we're in Durango CO and have put an additional 1k miles on this trip, for a total of 1,952 miles. The noise hasn't gotten worse, and hasn't gotten better. Slipped into the Durango HD dealership today and a tech listened to the recording I posted above, then wanted to hear it live with the bike running. He stated it was normal, and that every softail M8 he has dealt with makes that noise. I have had 2 different tech's from 2 different dealerships tell me the same thing. I will not accuse them of being full of crap, but I sure find this hard to believe. Both say it's the dual counter-balancers.
I'll post updates periodically, stay tuned.
first thing I noticed on my 20 fxst was the strange new annoying sound they said is the balances. But it didnt sound nearly as bad as your recording. I put up with it for a thousand miles than changed mufflers. Now I can hardly hear it and Im much happier. If it doesnt fly apart on your trip maybe get some louder exhaust. FWIW and good luck.
Returned home from Colorado trip yesterday, and total mileage is now at 2,659 with no change in the noise it makes. I ran into a guy at Durango HD with the same bike, and his has the same noise. I spent some time trying to make myself smart on the twin counter-balancers in this engine, and while rooting around the internet for info I've learned that these engines all make this noise, some are just worse than others. I learned that they are gear driven, and I believe what I'm hearing is gear whine. Only time will tell. In the meantime, maybe the Rineharts I'm installing today will make the noise go away
At 4500 miles now, still have the squeak/squeal - so nothing new but I wanted to put this video here for future use. If you listen to when his is at idle, he has the exact same noise I do. His complaint is about the noise at shutdown, but he has it at idle too. It's from this thread I found --- https://www.hdforums.com/forum/2018-...ing-noise.html
Thanks for the new update. Waiting on Dealer to come get mine. HOPING, I'll know for after the 1k break in service. Can't service locally and they are some 300 miles north of me. I see 4500 miles on yours, I was afraid to run 95 that distance until I got a reasonable answer like your tech in Darango. I have heard many that don't make that sound.

If mine blows up, I hope it does it before I void my warranty
Yo 702 that last vid sounds normal to me . Remember there's 4 valves, roller lifters, cam chain, balancers , slugs and a primary chain all whizzing around in there .There was a slight metallic sound at the end but it wasn't offensive to me. We know if that bike was warmed up , if it wasn't it'll tighten up a little when warm .
I think I remember your sound bite and yea you had a weird noise for sure but if it's not getting hot and losing power .What does your used oil and filter look like ?
If all M8's are anything like my Fat Bob 114, then these engines make lots of strange noises. And those strange noises don't translate well to audio or video files.
It makes a chugging sound starting up, sometimes the clutch or something makes noise, there's a constant whine and even when you shut it down it sounds like it's sighing and releasing pressure.
