For those of you following along at home, here is what the stem and bearings looked like when they pulled it apart. He said it was the worst he had ever seen. How does something like this happen on a 2018 with 10,000 miles on it?
Is it possible that water got in there, and you have a loose wire/ground somewhere causing electrolisis? I'm thinking like what happens to the sacraficial anode in a hot water heater.
I did a fall away test after seeing all this and come to find out, my steering stem bearing was jacked up as well. Not 1 roller pin was rolling. Full of rust.
My local Indy shop text me this earlier today. We are thinking this is from me being OCD and overly using the strong degreaser from the car wash every weekend the first 2 years I had the bike.

This is why you should never use anything more powerful than the “green garden hose” to wash a motorcycle. Motorcycles aren’t cars.
I wet wash my motorcycle only if I get caught in rain/wet roads. Even then I try to avoid directly spraying areas like wheel and steering head bearings.
A grease fitting in the steering head like my Evo Softail had would have prevented all this, but that would have cost the MoCo an extra buck.

I know now. I’m a hard learner. My dad and I were discussing a grease fitting getting installed but my shop had my bike done before I could call and ask.
