I recently purchased a new RG, the sales guy mentioned it would come with a stubby antenna out the left rear fender area. I put allot of extra's on the bike before I took delivery, when I went to inspect the Bike before taking procession I asked the mechanic about the stubby antenna. He told me there was no need for the stubby antenna as the bike had a hidden one in the fairing.
Tonight when I was adjusting the shock and had the left saddle bag off, I seen an antenna wire mounted all the way to the back fender as if it was going to install the standard one.
My question is if the bike comes with a hidden one in the fairing, why would Harley run the extra antenna wire and brackets to the back of the bike.
I'm confused now. Am I really going to have to take the fairing off to make sure there is a hidden antenna in there?
Does anyone know if the new RG specials come stock with the hidden antenna ?
Well, my favorite radio station comes in clear in the garage, that station has a tower less then 2 km from my house. There is snow on the ground up here, it will be sometime before I get it out on the road to see how it performs. I'll inquire again at the dealership, its just odd.
Did you have them add the detachable hardware and/or a tour-pak? I had them add the detachable tour-pak to mine and they installed the hidden antenna inside the front fairing. The wire/connector/mount for the rear antenna is still there, just not hooked up.
I put lowers on with speakers in them, that why the mechanic was in the fairing hooking up the extra speakers. No tour pack just the passenger detachable back rest & bracket. The bracket is not in the way of the antenna hole.
2019 RG Special here and NO stubby antenna. It came with the 3 foot long one. I cut it down and reattached the black plastic tip but still may not clear a tour pack. Works just a good as new and doesn't bounce all over hell like the stock length one. I definitely don't have one in my fairing. Hmmm
Well it took 3 weeks to get a reply from the dealership. It seems that when the bike came in and the PDI was done, a decision was made to put a hidden antenna on the bike by the service manager before it was put onto the display floor as a selling feature. They mentioned they did this for me free of charge....hmm.
Sounds like they forgot they put it on and I got the freebie as sales didn't know it was there.
I'll put it down in the Win column. Thanks to those that responded to try and help figure it out.
