Default Patching Holes

Current bike has 4 6x9’s in saddlebags . Would like to go to 8’s. I know I have to cut the entire hole for the new speakers. Does anyone know how difficult it would be to patch all the holes drilled for the 6x9’s. Any pics or info is much appreciated.

Do you have any pictures of the bags? A bunch of small holes or large holes?

I don’t bike at the dealer for service. It ha a bunch off of holes drilled where the 6x9’s are at. I will get pics once I get the bike back. They are similar to holes like this

Cover the outside with tape. The best stuff to use is 3M 08237. Incredibly strong and bonds to ABS better than anything else I've used, and I've repaired quite a few parts for dealers, indie's, and insurance companies. The 08237 does require a 'gun' to use it, so that may be an issue, unless you can borrow one. That stuff will set up fast so be prepared, and work maybe one speaker size area at a time. Apply it over the holes then spread it into them with a plastic spreader. The smoother the better as it will dry with a gloss. Then sand smooth and paint.

I had an AHB 8" ring kit innthe back of my bags and had to patch it in order to put 10s over the shock hump. The previously mentioned, tape off the bag is a must. Tape all of it off. You've got expensive paint on there, mask the entire bag. I taped mine, tripled up where the gaping hole was and then from the inside I started laying fiberglass mat and dabbed on resin. Repeat until the thickness matches the bag.

In your application, (if it were me), double tape the holes and make sure the tape is on there really well, lay the tape side flat on a workbench and paint a thick layer of resin down, lay a single sheet of glass mat and dab it down with remaining resin. Just make sure you're putting enough resin on the precoat and then on top of the mat to fill the holes. Let it harden up and see what you have. If it needs another layer of mat,,cut another piece and repeat. If not, put another coat of resin on top and get it nice and smooth.

I'm sure there's a million ways to do this, that's just how I've done it. You can also use RIT dye on your resin to try matching paint color (unfortunately with white bags, you cannot).

There is another material yo can use instead of the 3M 08237, Permatex Plastic Weld that comes in smaller tubes that will hold just as well as the 08237, but it will take a few of them, and it dries even faster, so you may not be able to do as many at a time, and it will have to be mixed and spread on. It is extremely strong on ABS and bonds very well.
