Need some guidance

I have a 2020 Road Glide Special. It is apparent now that the audio is lacking. I like the interface, the radio is fine. I use Apple Car Play and have no issues with that. However, the sound is not that good from the stock speakers. Is it possible to just replace the speakers and be done with it or do I need an amp? I am completely ignorant when it comes to motorcycle audio. I have read some but need some help. If I have to go the full route, I figure my budget is about $1200 and I can do it myself if needed.

I am looking forward to your suggestions!

You will need an amp and speakers. The factory speakers are 2 ohm so if you upgrade just the speakers and decide you need an amp later (which you will) you will need 4 ohm speakers most likely. The bike audio gurus will steer you right. Good Luck

As mentioned if you only change the speakers you will be unhappy with the results. The shelves are pretty bare for audio gear with what Covid has done to the supply chain.. Still there are items in stock.

I installed this in my 2020 RGS and am very pleased.
biketronics BT355
amp install kit
Stinger amp
Mmats
If I remember right I was all in just under $600

Audio advantage in South Carolina usually has the mmats in stock. The also carry the stinger amp, but not sure the price right now. You can watch on amazon as well for a price drop to around 200 for a good buy.
