Changing out the fairing 6.5s to some cicada chx65 speakers and Im not sure where to put the crossover they come with. Do I mount it sone how inside pod or mount them on the outside some how?
I tried searching the web but couldnt find any installs or pics that would help
Ok. I was probably just over thinking it then. I got them mounted in the pods using Velcro, screws and/or zip ties.
But found something when pulling the pods out. It looks like my speakers before were hitting the framing of the grill in the fairing (you can see witness marks on the speaker surrounds). Anyone seen this before? Will these cicadas have the same issue? Looks like the Focals have a larger rubber surround that sticks out from the mounting ring when compared to the Cicadas

You have the NEW style Cicada with the thin rubber gaskets and you will not have any issues with the speaker rubbing on the grill mounts/screws.
Now if you have the old CH65 version 1 there would be issues hitting.

Ok thanks. Whats the fix if using speakers that do hit the grill structure? I never thought the Focals would hit.
I have the 2 ohm versions and a flx700.4 that is also powering a two sets of cxx 6.5s on channel 3 and 4. Looking at the specs now I might be light on power for them and already have a second 800.4 amp in the works for the 6x9 lids Im adding.
Safe to say I fell down the rabbit hole a lot deeper than I originally planned haha

To answer the IF question to keep speakers/surrounds from hitting the grills is to mount the speakers on the inside of the pods if clearance allows or make sure to purchase a speaker that will work in that location.
The CXX will be fine on the FLX700.4 but the CHX will be light on power. The CHX like 250ish to get in their wheel house.
Since they are 2 ohm you WILL NOT be able to bridge an amp to get them the power they want short of switching to a larger amp.
