Contemplating upgrade from Hogtunes...
Well, I've finally started ordering things...
Ordered so far:
- Sony DSX-310BTX Head Unit
- SoundStream PN4.520D Amp
- BikeTronics BT7P1 Speakers for fairing
- BikeTronics BT1002 Sony Radio install kit
- BikeTronics Splash Cover
- BikeTronics Sony Harness w/Connector
- A bag of Poly-Fil
The saddlebag lids are on hold for the moment, but when the time comes it will be the new Hogtunes lids with some Pioneer TS D6902R Speakers, DEI 6x9 Boom Mats, and a pair of Delphi Packard Weatherpack 2pin 16-14 AWG Terminals. I'll run the speaker wire from the amp to the back of the bike now while the bike is apart so that it's ready.
I'm down to the wiring now. From what I read, 10 AWG power wire is sufficient for this setup, however the inline 10 AWG blade fuse seems to be hard to find. NAMZ seems to have a kit for amp installs that includes the following:
NAMZ Amp Power Kit, (http://namzcustomcycleproducts.com/p...amp_power.html)
includes 17’ of 10-gauge Red power wire, 3’ & 15’ long RCA cable, 2’ long, 10-gauge Black ground wire, 17’ long, 18-gauge Blue remote wire, 17’ long, 16-gauge speaker wire, ATC style heat resistant fuse holder, 30-amp AGU fuse with cable ties & crimp terminals. Handles 600 watts.
Does that look adequate? The ground wire seems to be short, but if I'm simply grounding to the fairing bracket I should be ok, right?
Did I forget anything?

Well, I am a happy camper!
I finished the install just in time for a 1700km road trip (half of it in heavy rain... ugh, thank goodness for that splash cover), and must say there is a definite improvement over the hogtunes setup that I had.
Some people have mentioned that the BT7P1's sound a little lacking in the high range when compared to the Polks, however since I am running my Hogtunes tweeter bar in addition to the tweeters on the BT7P1's, I am quite happy with the all-around sound.
I initially had trouble getting the amp to slide back far enough to get the fairing back on, but managed to whip out the dremel and shave off some plastic underneath the Speedo and tach gauges so as to slide the amp back far enough.
When setting the gain, I went through several different types of music and ended up dialing it back than most people have mentioned on several threads here... I'm somewhere around the 10-10:30 position.
*** on a side note, the instructions listed in the instructions thread are incorrect with regard to wiring the speaker outputs from the amp to the fairing speakers ***
So overall, I am very pleased.
Now if only I could get the voice prompts working between the zumo660 and the radio as discussed in my other thread...
